My BD is generally a quiet pretty quiet amp--which I like because I mostly play at relatively low (home) volumes. However, whenever I plug anything into the effects loop there is a irritating increase in the audible noise/buzz. I generally run a few boss pedals (CE5, DD7) in the loop but even if I patch an empty cable through the loop the noise is there. If I put all my pedals in front of the preamp then No Noise... Do I have bad tubes??

I was encouraged by GC today to replace two of the preamp tubes with GT-12AX7-R. Is this a good idea? This is my first tube amp and I appreciate the help?

Hi Gerard and welcome to the forum. Not real familiar with these amps(mostly the older ones), but if you want to look at the schematic, you'll see that the effects loop is powered and buffered by three transistors, those trianglular figures. Of course any noisy tube ahead of them would be influential. That being said, did this condition happen all of a sudden? Is the amp OK otherwise, meaning all the switches and controls that affect the overall performance of the amp? I would try some contact cleaner on the pre amp tube pins and on a 1/4" plug to clean the loop's jacks. Throwing new tubes at this problem, may not be the best solution. Art

I get the same issue with my 2013 Blues Deluxe Reissue. I get buzzing when I plug a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver into the effects loop.

Did you have any luck with resolving the issue?

Take the Blues Driver out of the effects loop and put it in front of the amp (guitar>Blues Driver>amp input). Overdrives do not work well in effects loops.

If the amp is quiet with nothing on effect loop , it is not a tube or the amp .

Too much noise is comming from the effect you plug there .

Which is why ODs do not go in effects loops. That plus they are designed for guitar level input signals, not line level like you get from the preamp.

spurtenshaw should do a google search on where to place effects pedals in a guitar/amp system.

Hi,
I just bought a brand new Fender Blues Deluxe and I tried my TC Arena reverb and pedal through the effects loop. I get the same type of buzz. Reverb sounds much better through the effects loop and I would really prefer to run this this through the loop.

This issue happens regardless of what pedal I put in there. As long as the cables are plugged in, the amp is buzzing.

I would appreciate if someone had solution for this. Tomorrow I will call GC to see if they can do something.

Best

From all the posts, this sounds like an impedance/voltage loading issue. There maybe an aftermarket board to solve some of these problems. Dunno. Or you could make a DIY setup. You need to know impedance & voltage output of the pedal. And loading impedance and voltages of the effects input of the amp.

Hi, thanks for your reply!

The problem is when you hook up the cable directly on the loop without the effects, there is hum. So the effects are not an issue. Its the amp itself.

I have the same problem with my BD... It must be a problem from the amp itself. Any luck in solving it?
