I have a new Hot Rod deluxe and I find that it is pretty noisy when I turn up to 3 and above. If I switch to the overdrive channel it is not nearly as noisy.
When I switch to the More Drive channel the noise comes back.

I'm coming from a very quiet solid state amp, so is it just that I'm not used to a tube amp?

What's going on ?

Thanks

Try re-seating you tubes. Sometimes the tube get loose in transport. Don't wiggle them too much or you may damage the solder joints on the tube socket and cause more problems.

I would recommend taking it back and moving up to a DRRI or Super Reverb if you need the power. Do a search and you'll see how much I personally dislike the HRD series amps as well as my reasons. I will always try to help if you decide to keep it and develop problems. Be aware that tube amps are never really dead silent.
