Hey guys, some of you may know that at some point this year I will be adding a Super-Sonic Head to my arsenal.

Whats the general perception from you folks on this amp?

Would you go with the Super-Sonic 4x12 cab or a Marshall Vintage Modern slanted cab (those are the 2 I have in mind)?

Also, having spent a lot of time last month playing one in store I forgot to find out if it has an adjustable bias pot a-la Hot-Rod series, does it?

Thanks as always guys,

CC

The only Super Sonic I tried was a 112 combo. It was a very nice sounding amp with a range of very useful tones. IIRC the head does not have reverb. That would be a deal breaker for me. If I were to go with a Super Sonic I'd be doing the 112 combo on top of a 112 extension cabinet. I've always been fond of that "mini-stack" kind of rig. I've had several in the past and still have one now. IMO they are the way to go. Not normally fond of the 412 cabinet.

Hmm. OK. There's been some changes to that amp in the recent past. I was sure they sold a Super Sonic 112 extension cabinet. Also looks like you can no longer get the 112 combo in Blonde.

They have a 212 cabinet. Both colour choices are still available, it seems to differ depending what route you take through the products, you either get the blonde or the black on all the Super-Sonic range. Its confusing, I've always had issues with the product section layout on here.

Cheers for replying Beamer!

ok, i had the 1x12 combo and LOVED it. But, i would rather have the head. So i cut the combo down into a head. So now i have a head WITH reverb. It is awesome. I run it into the 2x12 cabinet and i must say that sucker is LOUD and it really fills a room. I cant imagine how much air the 4x12 would push. I cant imagine a gig that would ever require that much sound. If i had to choose between your 2 options i would go with the supersonic 412 cab because i love the v 30's. Ideally i think the amp sounds best with 1 v30 and 1 greenback. or 2v30's and 2greenbacks. But thats just my own taste.

Yer a brave man, my friend. I don't know if I would have the cajones to follow through on an idea like that. Show us a pic if you don't mind.

Yes, there is a bias adjustment pot on the PCB.

Amongst other amps (an old Line 6 Flextone II, a Deluxe VM, a Ceriatone 50w "Plexi" clone with the standard Marshall 1960 A slant top 4x12, and Egnater Rebel 20 with 1x12), I've also had the SuperSonic head and 2x12 for a couple of years. It sounds great with its 2x12, but it sounds even better for what I do when I use my Marshall 1960A (regular slant-top) 4x12 cab.

Best advice - try it both ways, and see what excites you.

Thanks guys!

I'm most likely gonna go with the Fender 412 from all I've tried.
