Yesterday after playing, one guy suggested I try two ten inch speakers in my Blues deluxe instead of the one twelve inch. I could fit them in no problem, just need a new speaker mounting board and reapply the cloth. I wonder what this would do to the sound of the amp and would it be worth the effort. Would the smaller speakers somehow lessen the quality or add to it because of more air movement? Has anyone done this to an amp here?

As an alternative, consider getting a Hot Rod Deluxe Extension Speaker Cabinet. It matches the Blues Deluxe (the tweed version) and makes a good looking 'stack' in addition to changing the sound. The sound becomes slightly more bottom end heavy and fuller. I like mine.

If you buy two quality speakers, you'll probably spend $250 plus other materials to make the conversion, and the extension cab is under $300.

You can view this cab on this site plus there are some old posts on it if you are interested enough to do a search.

I think with the 10s you will lose bottom end

I don't think you will lose any bottom end, I'm guessin it would be much tighter in the mid-range.

You won't lose bottom end by moving from 1x12 to 2x10. That's a myth perpetuated by the car audio industry. Bass guitar cabinets are typically loaded with multiple 10's and they have serious bottom end. The Vibro-King is an amp with some of the deepest bottom end possible in a guitar amp. Major cajoñes. It uses three 10's. Two 10's will give you clearer bottom end with less mud than a single 12 but that may not always be what you want in a guitar amp. The larger the cone diameter the more chance of speaker related mud due to cone flex/deflection.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I would like to have just the amp as a combo, without carrying an extra cab with me. I would hate loosing too much mids, but I also like the bass sound. I could go back later but is the hassle worth it if this sounds too different? I think the smaller tens would give a crisper and cleaner sound.
