Valve. Tube. Glass. Glows in the dark. Complex. Organic. Dynamic. As Dr. Frankenstein once opined about a tube amp..."IT'S ALIVE!!!!!"

I prefer tubes (valves) but solid state and modelers have come a long way. I have a POD XT that I use for recording when I can't mic one of my amps.

most experienced guitarists can tell the difference between a real tube amp and a modelling amp. solid-state amps have their place if you want sparkling-clean tones at loud volumes, but modelling amps still sound like a solid-state amp pretending to be a tube amp.
my reasoning is, solid-state amps are good at what they do, don't try to make them be something they're not. and solid state amps aren't tube amps.

I have one of each and like them for what they are. I can get a tone I like out of either of them and that suits me just fine.

Okay, just my opinion, but you should definitely go with a solid state modeling amp when you're noodling. I love dialing up different tones on my POD & G-DEC.

But if you're going for the ultimate tone, nothing beats a tube amp.

You can especially hear and feel the difference between tubes and solid-state when you set the tube amp just at the breaking point.

Oh, come on people! Tubes are the way to go! I personally can't stand modeling amps. I mean, please, for once, play your amplifier like it is instead of dialing in effects that make your amp sound nothing like what the amp is trying to model. So again... GO TUBES!!!

Got to be Tubes

Warm tone that digital can't touch.

Valves of course. Try out different types and brands. There are many great valves, just find the ones the sound the best to you as different circuits and transformers react better or worse to different valves.

Solid state amps are good for acoustic guitars and vocals.

A realy good solid state amp sounds better than a lousy tube amp. They both have their place. If it sounds good, play it! With that said, If I could have only one amp, it would be a low watt tube amp, like my blues jr.

Certainly valves, they have a rich and warm tone. By the way, anyone seen a small bassamp with valves?
