My one year old Blues Jr. started popping and screeching while playing and continued after unplugging the guitar and turning the volumes off. I looked at the tubes and they seem fine. It got better after a while but still makes short screeching sounds when loud notes are played. Is there anything I can test or replace before taking it to the shop? Thanks.

Try working the speaker jack a few times. I had the same issue with my BJ I removed an inserted the speaker cable a few times and the problem was gone. Other possible causes could be the tube socket tension or a broken solder joint. Kinda unlikely though for such a young amp. I would try that output speaker jack first. Good luck to you!

Sounds to me like a tube may be going bad.

Thanks all. I think it is a bad tube, I'll do the tapping with a pencil routine. If I order a set of Blues Jr. tubes from Eurotubes, what would be the effect of ordering the "low gain" set which has an AT7 in v2, and power tubes chosen to have earlier breakup? Would the overall gain be the same as a stock BJr?

If its only a year old it'll still be under warranty. (When did Fender start offering the 5 year warranty?)

Just get it checked out by a Fender dealer.

I tapped the tubes with a pencil- bad power tube. But I would still be interested in hearing what people think about my post before this one, concerning using an AT7 in V-2 and then requesting "earlier breakup" power tubes to have less preamp tube breakup and more power tube breakup. And is Eurotubes and JJ a good way to go?
