The normal Deluxe is normal and the Special Deluxe is special. Isn't that special?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know I'm a bad person. Bad me! Bad!!

The only thing different is the speaker and cosmetics. Electronically, t'ss just a HRDlx.

They are the same except for the speaker. The special editions still have the same issues as the regular HRD series, unfortunately and don't take this the wrong way, you paid more for them. I had a lot of issues with my HRDlx and I'm not of fan of them. I dumped mine.

I wish my buddy would dump his. He sounds like crap when we jam together. I've politely brought it to his attention a couple of times and he does hear it but he's all hung up on it being the guitar's fault and tries a different guitar or different pickups or a different pedal every time we get together. I just shake my head and mumble to myself. Sooner or later he has to eventually realize. I hope, I hope, I hope.

People love low prices and if it's a Fender and it's a tube amp it's got to be good and it can't be the amp's fault, right?

Mine sounded like an icepick in the forehead. I changed the tubes to JJ's and it tamed it a bit then all it did was break down and eventually it was spending equal time in the shop. It was hands down the biggest disappointment of any amp I've ever owned. I'm not hard on my gear either. My Egnater is pushed way harder and just rocks. Three of my friends just bought them. They gig on a professional basis and they have been rock solid amps and cuts a mix like a razor. I've had it 6 months and it gets played almost daily and is gigged or used at open mic nights easily about 8-10 times a month either by me or people I lend it to.

Sad thing is the HRD series has the potential of being a great amp if they would use quality PCB's better tubes and a better speaker. I'd gladly pay more to have a solid amp. My Egnater rig was a little over a grand with both cabinets. I actually chose it over a DRRI just because of the tube mix and wattage control.

I read in internet that Limited Edition HRD are solid wood cabinets (maybe pine), while regular HRD are MDF (in Spanish: 'conglomerado.'). I have a Limited Edition one (wine red) and it sound better, brighter (not in a bad way) that the regular ones. It resembles a Bassman in one way...
I changed the stock speaker (Celestion G12P 80 Seventy 80), first to a Celestion V30 (I did not like it), and now to a Alnico Jensen P12Q. Also I adjust the bias hotter (stock tubes), and it made a difference! Try it.

Check my posts. Buena suerte amigo!

My opinion is that Celestion V30 sound better in closed cabinets. I played my HRD with a Marshall closed cabinet (2x Celestion V30) and they sounded amazing .

If you dislike the drive chanel (I don´t like either) try a good OD/Distortion pedal in front of the clean channel: Fulltone OCD, MI AUDIO Crunch Box... are excelent choices, and if you put a TS9 in front of them... la leche tío! ;)
