I've tried one, but I found it a bit hissy/noisy. I had at one point a 64 Vibrolux Reverb and it was great. The Custom isn't the same. Try it out though you may like it.

There are a lot of great amps out there for a grand. I'd also look at the DRRI. Great amps for playing blues nice natural breakup. I use an Egnater Rebel 20 and it's a great amp and really versatile.

PCB. The DRRI has the tube sockets mounted to the chassis. I'm pretty sure the Vibrolux is the same way. I'ne never heard of any problems with the DRRI's PCB construction.

The Egnater is PCB too and the tube sockets are mounted to the board, but, the board is thick double sided glass epoxy with plated through holes. The tubes are mounted facing up, so there are no heat related problems like with the Fender Hot Rod Series amps.

There is nothing wrong with PCB construction as long as it's done properly. Many boutique amp builders use PCB construction.

The Custom Vibrolux Reverb (CVR) may look like a re-issue but it's not. It's an entirely different animal and prolly not worth you serious consideration IMHO. On the plus side the VRs of old have not enjoyed the same out of control increase in values as some other vintage Fender models. You could prolly find a real VR (prolly a Silver Face) for about the same price as the new CVR and have yourself a really sweet sounding amp that will only increase in value, unlike the CVR.

One cautionary note. As truly sweet as the VR was, it was never intended for the meek or the weak. It is a very very sensitive amp that will reveal the tone in your hands almost as much as the tone in your guitar. Play well and it will reward you with heavenly tone but if you don't play well it will also reveal that quite obviously. One thing is certain, owning a VR will force you to clean up your articulation. It will also focus your attention on the subtleties of attack and finger pressure.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

As pointed out in an earlier post this amp has had some issues with regard to unwanted "noise," hissing etc. A friend of mine had one and unloaded it after awhile for a DRRI. He could never resolve the problem. There are other posts here and other websites regarding this issue. Try a search. For a grand you can do better.
