I'm on my second Princeton Recording in as many weeks now and both decided to impose a massive volume drop when you're playing it hard with lots of open strings. Makes is unusable for anything live. I've checked all the usual leads pedals etc. Used with 3 diff guitars and as many diff leads. Isolated the overdrive and compressor etc. Not really getting anything useful back from emails to fender and my local dealer things I'm having him on.

Has anybody else come across this problem?

dg-unit - I've been experiencing the same thing. I also did some online investigation to see if anyone else was having the same problem and the answer was yes.

I took the amp to a registered Fender amp repairman and he "scoped it" on his bench and couldn't find anything wrong. I finally had to connect the amp to my computer and pumped music through it to get it to break up and I recorded that sound as evidence for him. I haven't brought it back to him yet.

During that process I thought about placing a fan on the back of the amp to see if it was an overheating issue. So far, after trying out a couple of different scenarios, it seems to be working. When I fire up the amp with the fan on, let the music play (computer) for an hour (cranked to 10 with the attenuator bringing the volume down to household levels) and then plug in a guitar and let loose, it has seemed to hold. I have also tried the same thing and then turned on the fan once the break-up started and it's already too hot to manage. So I have a clip-on fan ordered which I am going to try at a rehearsal and see what happens. If that works, I'll probably install an internal fan wired to the power switch.

That's all I got for now.

Well today I took it back to the shop and they confessed that a lot of Princeton Recordings had been recalled, most were not so bad and a rare few even worked properly. They said it was a problem with the attenuator.

I'm gutted because I love the sound of the amp and the features you have on it. Nice work on the fan. I just can't used something that I'm worried will cut out like that even if it is modded with a fan.

What I just can't believe is that this seems to be a know problem amongst Fender dealers (and presumably to Fender themselves) yet they are still selling them! I guess if all you do is play blues licks through it you will never know there is a problem.

Good to know I'm not insaine tho and other people are out there with this issue!
