Post subject: What tubes do for tone?

I think I see what it's all about when folks get excited about a nice valve amp. Maybe it's not just the tubes... per se (I always wanted to say "per se" in a post)... there's the speakers and the cabinet and all the other things that make a good amp.

Got to play on a Fender 100watt combo valve amp today (my memory is very bad but he called it a silver face... I think it said "Twin Reverb" on it.)

Still under the wing of the original owner. Buddy of mine who plays a couple of Gibsons (one a twelve string) on it in a small local "garage" band. He bought it about 1970 I think because I did ask him if it was a re-issue. I was down at his place and he was checking out how I'd done setting intonation on my MIM. He said it was pretty well spot on... I guess I done good!

Ummm... it was sweet! That amp did sound very nice. 8)

What's my point? Nothing... just sayin' :P
