The SCXD does not come stock with a standby switch; does it really need one, or has Fender wired it so that a rectifier blocks the initial current surge?

Jhancoc, whether or not the amp needs it is debateable. Some feel the standby is just a hold over from the days of radio transmitters that had many thousands of watts and that guitar amps just don't produce enough power to justify it's use. While others are adamant about the need of a slow tube warm up and the possible capacitor damage due to a sudden current inrush. The SCXD does not have any thing to slow the inrush, like a thermistor. Art

I have a 74 Champ the I just replaced the 6V6 power tube after twenty years. Not because it was bad, it developed a slight rattle. It has no standby. Most of the low wattage amps I've had over the years had them either. I remember everything when I was a kid ran off tubes. TV's, Radios, even car radios. No standby switches on that stuff either and the TV's were pretty high voltage.
