Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me if 15w is too loud for home use? Im looking at the Superchamp XD but am afraid it will be too loud for my purpose. I dont really understand wattage as my Hi-fi is 35w per channel and that fine...but i guess i dont max it out...does same theory apply to guitar amps?

Thx

The SCXD is not too loud for home use yet is plenty capable of delivering enough volume for smaller gigs. You'll be happy with it.

That was my main fear when I bought my BJ (also 15watts). No problem at all! I play in my office / study which is about 10ft x 15ft. I can get plenty of great tone (even with the door open) and my wife doesn't complain. And believe me, she'd let me know about it if it was too loud!

The SCXD will be a great amp. Go for it!

+1 on the SCXD.
With the different amp modelling settings, you can pretty much get the same sounds you would get from a number of amps played all the way up at a much lower volume, and no real need for overdrive pedals or attenuators.

You can't go worng with a SCXD. I have one and absolutely love it!! It is without a doubt the best amp I have ever owned.

If I play "quietly" so I can still get a nice tone but without disturbing my wife, I usually have the Volume at about 2.5 and the Master at about 2.

When I'm home alone I'll usually play with the Volume around 5-6 and the Master still around 2. That gives me a pretty good clean sound. If I want some more depth to it I'll hit the FAT switch. For dirt I use a pedal. I've found that for my taste, the amp's own overdrive sounds a bit thin (more like a fuzz pedal), at least at reasonable playing volumes. But hey, that could just be me. Go try them both in a shop and see what you think. What I did, is I went in when the shop was really quiet and I could just play quietly by myself to see what I thought.

Good luck!

I have a BJ and a PRRI I play at home. I also owned a SCXD, which was a nice/fun amp. Unfortunately, it developed a horrible static noise, after a few months, diagnosed as a board issue. But that's another story. I guess it's how you play. I use to only have a 40 watt HRD at home and controlled the volume. So from my perspective, 15 watts is just fine for home use.

At home, a 15watt master voume amp (like my BJ) can do the job, but still cut it in a (reasonably sized) live playng environment.

But my fave amp for home use is my newish (non master volume) Vox AC4TV. Set the attentuator to 1 watt, crank it loud enough to bring in the power amp distortion and it's a manageable but huge tone. Wish Fender did something similar.

Depends on your house and circumstances.

I personaly find 5watts too loud for home use the majority of the time. After 8pm its never above 3.

I find 15watts to be no good for either stage or home. Too quiet for any stage work without a PA to mic' it to. Too loud for home.

I would agree and expand the last post to "Depends on Home or Stage"

It's never too loud kiddies. Just kidding, I keep a 70's silverface Champ on my test bench, 5 huge watt's its plenty loud for any small room Ican still carry this one, 22 watt Deluxe reverb for larger, can still carry this to. And my personal faveorite 85 watt Twin reverb for rooms in heaven , need an angel to carry this pig. THERE ARE ONLY TUBES IN HEAVEN YOU KNOW.
