The Champ seems to have a 4 ohm speaker. What happens if I run that through my Deluxe ext cab which is 8 ohms? Do I need need some sort of device to change resistance from Amp to Speaker?

The amp wants to see 4 ohms. This will work.

is this something I could build with a few resistors and input and output and a project enclosure? because it looks that way to me. Or is there more to it than that

I think there's a bit more to it.

LOL noted. Will not blow up cab or amp goofing around. :) What did n00bs ever do without forums? Answer: kept local techs in business.

as long as u do NOT go UNDER the min ohm rating AND you are getting close to the amp's rating your prob ok

so, yeah the champ would be ok with a 8 ohm cab or speaker

just NEVER try to drive a 2 ohm load or anything under that 4 ohm rating

i have used tube amps for years that were 8 ohms with a 16 ohm cab
i have used amps that were designed to use 4 ohms and had a load of 8 ohms instead.
no problems with that

oh, and NEVER EVER go with no load. not even for a second. ever....

Driving an 8 ohm load you'll lose power and headroom. You could drive a 16 ohm cab too but it really won't sound that great. Given the cheap components in the 600, I wouldn't do it. I'd go with the ZMatch.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

I have just tried this, in desperation, as my (other manufacturer's name beginning with M) amp has just died.

I am happy to say, my Champion 600 is driving a 16 ohm cab, and sounding pretty good - despite the speaker being from (yet another manufacturer beginning with P).

Mind you, I have replaced the woeful original valves...

It'll do for bedroom practice, I'll not be gigging with it like that or anything silly! (ROFLMAO etc).

ttfn,
Ade.

I can say that mine sounded great through one half of a VT Bassman 15 cab. (which means it was hitting an 8ohm load.) It will sound better once I get the other speaker wired in.
