Hello again!

Some weeks ago I started a post about the Vox AC30 vs. Fender Blues Deluxe.(I think it was those two amps)

Now I'm wondering if the Fender Blues Deville RE amp is any good for the type of twangy, funky, clean/slightly distorted sound that is on the song "Give it away" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Thats just an example on the sound I want. I'm looking for a really good clean sound, that can be slightly overdriven to a nice blues/funk sound.

Hope you guys can help.
If this amp isnt good frot that kind of sound, then you can just recommend something else. I liked the amps from the other post, so I have to thank you guys for being so helpful!

Like I've said a hundred million times, the HRD series amps are real hit and miss in the reliability department. I'm not commenting on the sound, just the build quality of the whole Hot Rod series. I'd go with a Super Reverb or the AC30.

No, I didn't mean it like that. I should apologize. I just re-read my post and it sounded pretty arrogant. Please accept my apologies. I didn't mean to sound that way to you.

If you do a search on me, you'll see that I quite literally said it well, not maybe a hundred million times but at least a half a thousand times.

I had a real bad experience with my HRDlx. I mean real bad and so did many of my musician friends. The HRD series amps IMHO are not built to professional standards. Sure once in a while you'll hear of someone having one for 15 years or whatever. But on some other forums the running joke is, " How old is my HRD..." and the answer is "If it still works, less than a year."

Ossy, if you have any questions at all please ask. I'll do whatever I can to help.

Take Care

Haha, you dont have to apologize :P
I know what you meant :D

And I've been looking at some really nice amps, but they're out of my price league (for now), so I just try to find out everything about the amps I find in my league.

I think I'm just going to try to save up for a really nice Vox :P
Then I have something for the rest of my life (if I take care of it)

Sorry Fender

Well, John Frusciante uses all vintage stuff: a Marshall Silver Jubilee head for crunch and a Major 200 for clean live settings, in the studio he's bee known to use a Blackface Fender Showman and occasionally an old twin reverb or AC30. So for you, if you could happen to find an old Showman head and cab, I think that would be ideal, but there's many, many options to explore ^^ I for one own an old 1968 Ampeg Portaflex that does exactly what you want, stays clean and can be pushed to some really nice crunch. As for the amps you proposed, they're good, but I think you could do better for the money in the used department.

I'd save your money and buy the best you can, used or new. A Deluxe reverb does Fender clean well, and does break up well at higher volumes; it also takes pedals well.

Hey Ossy,
Can yo get to a shop and ply some of thee amps you have mentioned? That will really be the "test". I happen to think that the Hot Rod Series are good, I haven't had any problems with mine. and I really like the sound. The thing is these are all of our opinions, its really up to you and your ear to find what is best for you.. and your price range

Hope this helps

Bill
