Took your guys' advice and bought it. Well, put it on lay away for now. Will be in my possession in 2 weeks.

I hate to be THAT guy but it is new. Sat on the showroom floor for a year. Local dealer is a cool cat. Just decided to break even and hook a local brother up. I am pretty stoked, even if it is way nicer than what I was shopping for. But at the price of a current run Twin or a Bassman, how can you pass it up?

I did also buy a Champ, to play on while I wait to pay off the Twin.

Thanks fellas. I am a) happy that one of these urban legend deals went my way for once and b) humbled that someone as untalented as myself will be playing on a world class amp. I'll try my best to do it proud! :) But in reality, I'm why they make Champs...

Don't be so hard on yourself about talent. The important thing is that your expressing yourself musically and having fun.
Everyone is talented in their own unique way. Me, I'd rather listen to John Lee Hooker than Malmsteen any day of the week.

Thanks man, I always feel pretty self conscious about my playing, but I love it.

And LOL Malmsteen. I know those guys are technically amazing but it eludes me. I'm a Zappa guy myself, so needless to say I don't sit and try to mimic his LPs. :)

Hey Surf, that should be a real nice set up, and that stand alone reverb unit will be great with the Twin. If it's ok, I'll share a couple of anecdotes: after years of using an old Twin Reverb in a blues band, I decided to switch to a Matchless Clubman 35. Well, the first time I used it, I was intimidated by it's depth and clarity(never use pedals). Thought to myself, man this is way better than I can justify playing. But it really forced me to up my playing skills. Any way that amp was the best thing for me and it helped upgrade my contribution to the band. I'm gonna bore you with something that just happened. The lead guitarist from that blues band called me night before last, wanting me to bring my '72 Guild F48 over to do some acoustic playing along with our friend(a finger-picking, Collings, swing blue grass player). Seems he had just recieved his latest Taylor, a custom built one from their "R" shop. He said he wanted to do some comparisons. But he also said this guitar was intimidating, that's how balanced and clear it sounds. He told me that the guitar is so far beyond his talent, it's scary. Now this is a very talanted, A-type personallity guy who sneers at confrontations(plays PRS's & Badcats). So you can see, Surf, this happens to a lot of us lucky musicians. Keep pickin' ! Art

...yes, you don't need to justify the expense:talent ratio... what most people seem to neglect to realise is that your amp is the other half to your instrument - not an adornment!

Yep, and the better sounding the amp the more inspired you'll be to practice. Just do me a bi favor and don't put some high gain pedal in front of it LOL.

I'm a huge Zappa fan too. Have been since I was a 10 year old kid in 65. My older brother played his stuff constantly. :D I had to hide from my Mom in my brothers room because she didn't like the lyrics.

LOL I am 35 and I have the same problem with my wife... haha. I have been playing cool music for my 9 month old son and he really seems to like some of Zappa's stuff... Carolina Hardcore Ecstacy and We Are Not Alone are his "faves"

As for high gain pedals... I assumed that using pedals on this amp is a no no altogether, since its major upside is its natural tone. My question is... do I need to worry about the 63 Reverb distorting the signal? Should I swap out tubes in it? I read somewhere that the 12ax7 tend to distort where the 12at7 do not.

So my Keely Mod Ibanez Tube Screamer is out? Guess I should sell it...

Thanks man! I suppose it stands to reason that an amateur will be motivated by nice gear, since bad gear makes you hate playing. I'm ready to play... Time to move on from tabs of Pipeline and learn how to actually make music I suppose.

No, I was just kidding. The Tube Screamer is a good choice. Especially the Keeley. I just built a Build Your Own Clone British Blues Overdrive which is a clone of the Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal. It adds some grit and is a lot more transparent that a Tube Screamer. I changed some caps in it to get rid of the midrange hump that's in the TS. Use the outboard reverb. That's what it was made for. The amp will distort naturally anyway. It will be tonal nirvana. :D

Can't wait to your impressions of the amp when you get it home. I wish you nothing but the best of luck with it.

Hey Surf, I hope that you didn't misunderstand my earlier post. What I was trying to say is that, I don't use pedals. Whatever you find that works with the new set up will be great, your sonic signature. Art

No I didn't take that to mean anything negative. I just love a clear Fender Strat sound, and I think that's why the 57 Twin exists. : ) Okay, clear Fender Strat through a 63 reverb...
