I've done a lot of research on amps lately. I am leaning twords a Frontman 212R. Its the right size, right price and readily avaiable. My question is: Is this the right choice if I want to use effect pedals like Boss Chorus, Danelctrictro, "cool Cat", etc?

Thanks. I'll try it out at a local Music store, and I will now ad the 65r to the research. One of them will work

My Frontman 212R just arrived today. It's a beast!

I have had the Frontman 25DSP for a practice amp and was very impressed by the quality of it's sound, so I had no reservations about getting a solid state amp.

I did a side by side comparison between the Frontman 212R and the Twin-Amp. Aside from tube versus solid state issues, there are almost the same...only the 212R is almost $2000.00 less.

The sound is amazing, not simply loud. Very "stage worthy" (unless you're rockin' an arena). Well built and pretty, too!

I almost went for the 65R, myself, but didn't want to always be thinking, "What if I had only went for the full 100 watt package..."

I have to agree, the 212 R is a great choice. Do yourself a favour, do not purchase the FM version. Get the Frontman. The FM series does not use a nut to retain the pots and they are a weak point. There are 3 little legs holding the entire pot in place with no support. The Frontman has a nut holding the pots to the chassis face plate. As to sound, both are the same. That 65 R is a great one too. Smaller in size but louder than you would expect. I have 8 amps from Fender and the 212R is second only to my Stage 160 DSP. But the 212R is about the same in loudness and cleaness. You won't be disappointed.

I received my Frontman yesterday and am really feeling good about the purchase. Has a great sound with my Fender deluxe strat, specially the clean channel. Only thing is the clean channel volume seems to be dependent on the treble mid and bass controls. At first I got no sound other than hiss even when i bumped it to 10. Then after turning up the volume AND tone knobs I got sound. The drive channel doesn't work that way so i'm guessing this isnt the way its supposed to work. Anyone else have this issue?

I really enjoy my FM 212R it has that Fender clean, great sound. Plus it takes pedals like a champ, I use a Danelectro CoolCat Drive and a Tubescreamer clone to great effect.

So I have a weird question Im using two BOSS pedals with my Frontman 212. I have them linked together to each other and they are also connected to the main footswitch, but the thing is that I dont know if they are working right. Basically what happens is that the distortion channel remains on and I cant get the clean channel on. In fact the main FENDER footswitch doesnt even light up and doesnt work at all, it wont allow me to even switch at all. I need some help here what am I doin wrong? Any help here would be great!

i dont think youre supposed to have effects in series with footswitch. the footswitch uses its own dedicated circuit to control remote channel switching. the effects are only screwing up the signal.

plus, that circuit doesnt go into the audio signal so your effects are doing nothing. they have to go through the regular input with your guitar signal.

anywho, i have the fm212r. good amp for what it is. i now gig primarily with a PJ, but i occasionally still use the FM for specific purposes. i use to gig it with a blues driver into the clean channel. once in a while i would use the OD channel. sounded cool, but i eventually converted to tube. i realized that a small tube combo is what i need and its just easier to haul around versus that 50 lb. mammoth (again talking about the PJ). basically the same tone i was after only in a much more convenient package, and its not a fake simulation.

also the 100 watts is overkill. there was a time when i actually needed it (or thought), but enter the PA and microphone and the tables turn.
again though i will occasionally call upon it. i.e., last time was on a christmas parade. didnt want to take the tubes onto a flatbed truck, so the rugged solid state and awesome power was a good marriage.

Thanks for the people who responded to my question! I have yet to be able to have time since I received the posts to try out the pedals again. Darn life, always gets in the way me and my music hahaha...
