What are the some of the complaints about the drive channel of the Blues Deluxe? (e.g.- bass response, treble response, amount of distortion, etc.)

I've heard alot of musicians like the clean channel, but hate the drive channel. Just curious.

I think it sounds better than the hotrod drive, but it is still too harsh sounding even with the guitar tone rolled off some.I think the best drive comes from a pedal of your choosing.Drive channels are highly overrated IMHO.

My complaint on the Drive channel of the BDRI is the lack of enough gain at 'reasonable' volumes. When playing gigs, we would always mic all instruments to keep stage volume reasonable and the Drive channel would then sound somewhat fatter than the clean channel, but not really overdriven. To get the overdrive sound, volumes had to be much louder than I like.

I would use a TS-9 set at a modest amount of OD, set both channels on the amp to the same sound level with the Drive maxed and in this way, I could get a Blues OD w/ the TS on the clean channel and gritty sound w/ the TS on the Drive channel. I would rather have not had to use the pedal for convenience reasons.

I do like the sound of the BDRI on both channels except for the lack of enough gain. I toyed with the idea of getting an attenuator, but several hundred $ and something else to haul and set up wasn't what I wanted, so I go the pedal route. It's not as inconvenient as an attenuator.

It sounds like the complaints are the same as mine.
I like the clean channel so I don't want the mods to change it.

I've addressed RVM's complaint by modding my BD. It is not a big change, but it does add some grind and volume adjustability. I swapped the master volume and drive pots and put a silver mica 900p cap for C4.

As far as the Budglo complaint, I think I've found a place to bleed the highs when the drive channel is selected. On RY1B pin 11, I'm going to put a bleed cap to ground.(back of the pc board most likely) Not sure of the value yet. I'll update the thread if anybody is interested.

Update: I changed the C4 cap from 900pf to 620pf for less bass response in the drive mode. I also modded the treble response of the drive channel to match the clean. On RY1, I soldered a 500pf cap between pins 8 and 11 on the back of the pcb. The cap is in the circuit only in the drive mode. The balance might improve a little more if I lower the cap value a little, maybe 330pf or 250pf, which I don't have right now. With the 500pf, the clean has a tiny bit more treble.
