Hey all, I am new to this forum. I own a Peavey Valveking 100 head and am looking to buy a cab to go along with it. I was thinking about purchasing the Fender FM 412 4x12 cab instead of the Peavey ValveKing 412 Guitar Cabinet since the Peavey is a bit too expensive. I play in a heavy metal band and am wondering if the fender cab would deliver enough distortion through my valveking head. I would also be using this cab for fairly large gigs and am wondering if it would be loud enough since it is only 100 watts while the peavey cab has 400 watts.

Thanks for the help.

I also have a VK100 head. I use a Peavey Windsor 412 cabinet, and it gets the job done. It actually is a good match for the amp.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Yeah, that sounds like a good match. I know this isn't fender related but do you get good distortion from that head? I'd be using my SSS American Standard Strat and am wondering if I'd be needing a humbucker or a good distortion pedal to get some beefy distortion out of that amp.

Thanks for the help

I get nice distortion tones with my sss Strat.
I usually use a overdrive pedal on the gain channel. My fulldrive 2 does the job well, but a lot of the vk100 guys like the digitech bad monkey.
There's also a trick that works well. You can put a 1/4" adaptor in input 1 of the amp and then plug your guitar into input 2. Basically, you're making the amp think that there are two guitars plugged in.
It sounds silly, but try it out and you'll see a noticable difference in tone.
