I've played thru a number of blues jr.s over the past couple years, at small pubs and blues jams. After playin' thru a princeton reverb, I couldn't believe the difference in tone. I don't know what took me so long, to try one out? Anyway, I'm thinking of up-grading to a 65 princeton or 65 deluxe reverb. I value everyones opinion on this forum, as most of you, have the experience and knowledge on playin' out and tone. The amp will be used at jams and small pubs. I use my twin and pro reverb for clubs and larger gigs. Which amp do you guys think will be best for small blues jams and pub gigs. thanks, dutch. :)

The drri is known as the ultimate small club amp for a reason.I also have a blue jr and used it at smaller gigs.Problem with the blue jr is it runs out of steam rather quickly.By that i mean it doesnt cut thru the mix very well.Personally I havent played thru a prri, but with a 10 inch speaker I would imagine with a loud enough drummer and no capability to mic it,you could be lost in the mix.I would recommend you look heavily at the deluxe reverb.I have gigged with mine and can use it in smallish clubs(less than 60 ppl)or medium size clubs, and if you have the capability to mic it, the possibilities are endless.Tonewise there is no comparing the drri to the blues jr.The drri kicks its little butt.

I have a Princeton, Princeton Reverb with a Deluxe output Transformer, and my Bandmaster combo.

The Princeton Reverb was my gigging amp for a long time - that 6V6 sound, and you could really push it. Plus it was compact and pretty loud for what looked like a stock Princeton. Tube-driven tremelo and reverb are amazing. Unfortunately, it only worked on shows where we were running the amps through the PA, and low end clean was not the best, but then again it's a 10" speaker so not expecting much. Still I love the sound. For shows without sound reinforcement for guitars, I always bring the Bandmaster.

The Deluxe Reverb may even convince you to leave your Twin and Pro Reverb home - gets loud, you can push into the 6V6's moreso than the 6L6's, and with a 57 or a e906 in front for larger places, you'll be fine. And your back will thank you! Other benefit is that you have a much larger group of speakers to choose from in the 12" vs. 10" to tailor your Deluxe the way you want it.

On either amp, getting it up off the ground is key so that you can hear it better - if your ankles are like mine, they don't hear so well...

Good luck and let us know what you pick.

DRRI hands down for your situation. Plus you get a second channel with EQ on the DRRI. I could never understand the small price difference between the two amps. The DRRI is much more versatile.
