hello guys, I am a new member and a tube amp n00b, just got a early 00's ish fender twin re verb reissue and everything has been good so far. This is my first tube and so the last week has been about me playing around with and reading up on this sweet technology. I had a question about one of the channels. My clean channel since I bought it has developed a snowy old tv sort of feedback sound ( only the clean channel the vibrato channel does not have this) and wanted to know if this meant the tubes for that channel where going bad or is this a more serious problem. Thank you in advance for you input.

Hi Hollandbk and welcome, the static could be a sign that the normal channel's tube is worn out. This would be V1, all the way to the right( viewing the amp from the rear). I would try spraying some contact cleaner on the tube pins. Before removing the tube draw a line with a marker on the glass envelope and the shield retainer on the socket base. This will help you realign the tube after you give it a shot of the cleaner. If there is no improvement, then I'd replace the tube. This tube pin-socket cleaning is usually considered normal yearly maintenance, so I'd go ahead and do them all. Just take care not to handle the tubes too roughly. Their internal elements are susceptible to damage if banged around. All the jacks can also be cleaned in this fashion( speaker, reverb, input, footswitch). Of course, the amp should be unplugged and left to sit for awhile, before and after the cleaning. Art
