When I got my CT, or rather came to the decision to get one, I didn't spend a minute thinking about how the emulated amps Fender put in would sound.
I looked at the amp as an incredible sound/tone monster with endless possibilities to create my own sounds. Or a way to create the sound that I think is close enough to the original artists sound to pull things off.

To me the Cybertwin (se) is a very versatile amp on it's own and I really couldn't care less who of the famous people is also using a CT.

a (easy) riddle, Below is a picture of my current amp setup :)
A Blackheart Little giant head, My Fender Cybertwin and an old Yamaha G100B that I use as a speaker cabinet for the Blackheart.
Not on the picture is my Line6 Pod 2.0 (that I rarely use.

Well, try and see if you can pinpoint what I used to create the little soundclip below. Mhh, I recorded it using a microphone !
No, no, no don't search the Internet, that would be too easy ;) listen and make your choice. Cybertwin or Blackheart.....

http://www.box.net/shared/4svlor9920

Over the years I came to the conclusion that no matter what setup I use to play (and I tried quite a lot and demoed few), I will again and again, just sound like myself with a little coloration by the setup. I'm sure that if I would let someone use my rig and guitars they still would sund like themselves and by no means like me.

Amps (some) I used or tried over time ?
Spirit 30 (ss)
Kitty Hawk (t)
Twin reverb (t)
Mesa Boogie mark V (t)
Marshall (t) (don't remember the type)
Vox AC 30 (t)
Vox ADVT15 (hybride- mod)
Vox ADVT30 (hybride- mod)
Roland Cube 15 (mod)
Peavey Bandit 112 (ss)
Pod 2.0 (mod)
Blackheart Little Giant (t)
Yamaha g100 b (ss)
Fender Cybertwin (hybride- mod)
and more......

The outcome was always with a little coloration by the amp it still was HalfBlindLefty playing.

So I go for the versatility and stick with the Cybertwin SE.
Yes it is possible the Blackheart leaves me over time :)

Lefty,

if you really want a top and cab, search around for the original CyberTwin Head - not sure how long they made them but they existed cause I've got one! It's only first generation cause as far as I know there was never a head version of the SE. They're not that common - I might only see one a few times a year on ebay (about as often as I see the elusive Roland JC120 head), but with some diligence, you can find one.

I had a friend that had a Fender DT4x12 cab that he sold me to match it. Plus I've got another homemade cab w 1x12" celestion that I use for bedroom/smaller settings.

Like everyone says, it's always personal taste with these things. I had a friend turn me on to the Cybertwin and I like its function as a 'swiss-army knife' type amp. For me, it was the ultimate amp for me to play at my church because I could take just the head w/ no cab, no pedal board, etc... and run direct to the board. The head version lets you run XLR outs only without a speaker load which is preferable for church setups that are all IEM w/ no stage amps.

I've also got a Blues Jr and yes, when I A/B between the 2 amps, i usually prefer my pedals/BJ slightly, but I can get em both sounding pretty close. (actually the sonic maximizer i have at the end of the pedal chain may be what gives the BJ a slight unfair advantage if you believe in those!)

Nonetheless, I like my CT quite a bit!

Interview with Buddy Guy, in of all places, a Guitar Center site:

Lefty - I like your statement about sounding the same no matter what you play through - it's very true. Whether it's my Dr. Z Mini Z or the Bandmaster, I sound like me as well.

The album they are talking about in the Buddy Guy interview (Sweet Tea) was released in 2001 & nominated for a grammy in 2002.
Good albium that's worth listening to.
Some of those old interviews are interesting. (Buddy still had his hair back then).

I saw Buddy Guy in concert one week ago & he was excellent.
Jonny Lang opened for him.

Just like last summer, there were no cyber twins on the stage .
But there certainly were some great sounding Fender tube amps.
