Hey everyone,

well, I play a strat and a couple of semi-hollows through a peavey classic 30 and hot rod deluxe. Im currently looking at a Texas Tele and The Twin amp (not the twin reverb) anyone own one?, how do they hold up?, I know they sound great and all the features of it are catching my eye (the fx loop and the 1/4th power button especially)

Hi,

I had one. Hardly used it. You have to bring 'em out, because it's too loud for home use, also at 1/4 of the power! I mean you can use it at home with the powercut switch one, but it began frustrating me not to be able to use more of the enormous potential of the amp. But that is personal of course.
Anyway whichever guitar you use the Twin will handle it perfectly. It's got ENORMOUS headroom, so for clean sounds you're okay and if you want really fat or even trashy sounds, just look at the gainknob and it will blow you away, even at low settings. If you play a hollowbody and sit close to the amp, then you might get some feedback, so move further away and it is solved!

I also have a Blues junior tweed which sits in my upstairs music room and that amp is more suitable to my needs. And it also got a beautiful sound. So I got rid of the Twin and bought another Blues Junior (The Texas Red) which I keep in another room!

Regards

Onno

Thanks for the quick response! I've played the Texas red blues jr and it was killer. I'll have to look into the twin more. I know I'll never need 100 watts. I gig now with the classic 30 (master volume usually @ 2oclock and the hrdlx which I can never play above 9-10 o'clock) I'm looking for lots of clean headroom

If you really want a twin, look at the THD Hotplate attenuator!

Twins are great amplifiers! Most people moan because of both the Volume and the sheer weight of the thing.

Its true but fully worth it.

thanks for the replies, I'm pretty much sold on it. I know it weighs a ton but if thats the price to pay then so be it. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a cheaper one on ebay.

i bought one new in 2005
Pro Tube Series "Twin~Amp"

PROS:
sound / tone / bass response / full bodied sound / tube tremolo / 2-12 just sounds BIG / clean channel is to die for / dirty is great for blues, classic rock, def can get mean if you wnat it to / will fill any room with any drummer / you can get a great sound out of it at low volumes

after a few years, i replaced the tubes with electro harmonix and I even like the sound better

Cons: heavy as hell (work out or do some squats a couple times a week just to get in shape, cause you may need to) especially if you are like me and have to carry it 100-250 ft sometimes-ahhhh

heavy as hell

oh, and the 25 W switch to me just cuts some of the tone, + doesn't really make a difference with the vol

when i play with a drummer, i usually play wiht the amp vol on 4 or 5 for rock n roll, also this amp loves your neck pickup
sometimes i crank the amp to 7 and cut my guitar volume anywhere from 3-6 - kinda gives you a cream sound, also works well at this setting for grown up chords like m11's / maj13 or whatever

took me a lil while to dial in, keep in mind this isn't a metal amp without a pedal. But i play rock/jazz fusion/blues & funk sorta all rolled into one

When i was a kid, i prob wouldn't have appresiated this amp.
I'm glad that I got it when I did.
This amp really shines when you are with a drummer, has NO problem cutting thru even their cymbal hits
I have had tube amps that didn't

Yeah, i can get metal tones outta my twin with a modeled DOD Preamp/distortion pedal. I get some insanely heavy tones. Its all good
