You can do a lot better for the money though you might like it. I always thought they sounded boxy. Lots of people mod them, I wouldn't bother.

Here's a link with all the cons of the amp and how to fix them.
http://billmaudio.com/wp/

The HRD series amps have lots of design flaws but at least there's lots of information on how to fix them. Justin Holton had a whole website dedicated to the repair and modification of Hot Rod amps too.

They are popular more because of their price point than their reliability and sound. Like I said you can do a lot better for your money. Deluxe Reverb Reissues and Bassmans are pretty reasonable on the used market. Just my opinion, I'm not trying to offend anyone. If you love your amp great, enjoy it. Some folks love the way they sound. I never did. My HRDlx sounded decent enough, but I couldn't keep it out if the repair shop so I got rid of it.

Thanks guys. I already have a fantastic rig that works for me...a HWY 1 Tele into a SCXD. I was looking for a backup amp but from what I am reading I think that I will just stick to what I have an possibly get another SCXD.
