Just traded my Deluxe 900 in on a Hot Rod Deluxe, Texas Edition. Any good or bad comments!

I've been playing out live for about a year with a HRDlx.
I have always wanted to hear what it sounds like with 2x10" speakers as opposed to the single 12".

Unlike most people, I actually USE the Gain channel for crunch and lead.
(I have also just recently started using an OD-1 in front for an alternate overdriven sound through the clean channel.

At 40 watts...it's still plenty loud, but a lot lighter than the HRDvl I had been using. Almost 20 pounds lighter, but because of my love of 10" speakers, I went back to gigging with the HRDvl using 4x10's since I am not jumping from club to club every weekend.

You should love your amp!

Thanks. So far I'm hooked. The sound is so full and it's loud. My Deluxe was rated at 90 watts, but the HRD is 10 times louder even though it's rated at a conservative 40 watts!

im sure you have it by now but i have a Texas Red as well and the thing SINGS!!! the over drive channel sounds better than the standard deluxe models. The Vintage 30 really does wonders to those amps. I use the over drive channel as well as a MXR GT-OD for when i want that thing to get crazy. The amp handles ALL styles really well. I am very impressed with this amp.

in choosing between and Orange and the Texas Red, i went with the Texas Red. The overdrive sounded better and in my opinion the clean channel stood out more for what i was going for. Dont get me wrong i LOVE orange, but the Texas Red is something special.

I think the HRD are great sounding amps but tend to have problems sometimes. Not hard to fix though. I love the sound of my HRD. Rock on!!!

I just got a HRD. Kinda took a risk and bought it off of ebay. well, as it turnes out it had a blown out speaker, but thankfully the place that sold it to me is going to pay for the new speaker. The speaker just arrived. I still need to put it in, but even with blown out speaker, this is still an awesome amp!! I can't wait to hear how this thing sounds when it's fixed!!! I would love to know what the age of mine is... any ideas on how I can find that out?

The Hot Rod Deluxe is a great little combo amplifier. In fact, is one of the most popular rental amps that production companies offer. When biased correctly, the Hot Rod Deluxe has excellent headroom and a wonderfully open overdrive.
The only down side is that Hot Rod combos tend to torture the tubes more than other combo amps.

If I'm not mistaken you can take the back cover off. (6 machine screws) and it should tell you on a sticker in there. Can't remember.

You do need to crank it up a little bit to get the good tones out of it!

I was playing the clean channel on 7-8 yesterday and though it was quite loud, it had a killer crunch overdrive.

When you back it down too much it gets a little boxey and dull.

This is not a good bedroom/apartment amp unless you can crank it up a bit!

I have owned a Hot Rod Deluxe with brown tolex for about 2 years. It is a very loud amp, and it is almost too loud to practice with in the house. I agree with what somewhat else said about the amp. At low volumes it is kind of dead sounding. I use it for church services and occasional gigs with a blues band. With the blues band it is an amazing amp. I think it is better suited for single-coil pickups. My guitars with humbucking pickups almost sound too dark with this amp. I may need to get a second amp that will give me better tone options at a lower volume level for the semi-hollow and archtop guitars.
