I have a 1990 59 Bassman RI which I love and will not part with however its starting to sound a little muddy to me. Im looking for some suggestions on speakers. I play Blues and classic rock. Its not my only amp but its my favorite.

If it's starting to get muddy, it might just be time for a tube change.

Yeah, I agree with Supro about the tubes. The amp will have to be fresh to make an accurate judgement on the speakers. Are those Alnico 10's in that amp? Art

Throw the Groove Tubes away. An amp like that deserves better. Hate those things!

Man, I'd put some good tubes in that thing. You can do a lot better than GT's. I'd try JJ's or Tung Sol. Another non invasive mod you can do is a Weber Copper Cap. It replaces you rectifier tube with a solid state rectifier. You can get a little more headroom and you won't get the sag like a rectifier tube and it should tighten up the bottom end a bit. I like both solid state and tube rectifiers.

It may even seem a little louder. Be sure you have the bias checked especially if you change the power or rectifier tubes. No need to bias if you only change your preamp tubes.

I use Jan Phillips wgb tubes in mine .They are about the best I have heard so far.The stock speakers should sound pretty good.Later versions had the jensens in.

Yep, I put a NOS JAN( Joint Army Navy) Phillips 5751 in V1 in my Rebel 20 to knock back some gain. It made a fine amp even better for my purposes.

I just ordered the Jan Phillips tubes. Hopefully that fixes things. That will save me some money for other things (New Guitar).
