Epiphone Blues Custom Amp.

 I am thinking about buying one because they are a little cheaper than a fender HRD. Has anyone used one of these amps? What do you think of them? I play blues and some rock n' roll with 2006 Fender Strat MIM HSS. I have been palying for about 30 years.
PLEASE DON'T RESPOND WITH JUST GO AND PLAY ONE. I live a loooong way from a music store and maybe your replys will save me some time and trouble.

Thanks,
Ron

Like you, they caught my eye, too. I have not yet found a store that had one in stock to play. :(

I also belong to the Gibson/Epiphone Forums. What I've read there is that guys are replacing the main power cord (A/C lead) with a 14 AWG wire. They claim that it improves the tone of the amp. Other than that, I've not read anything really bad or good about them.

I'm under the impression that they are just too new, so time will tell.

I can tell you this. I just picked up a Peavey Classic 50 w/2x12" speakers (it's loaded with 4xEL-84s and 3x12AX7s) for a real bargain at Guitar Center. I was told they are not carrying that model anymore, just the 4x10" speaker model. I tried the 4x10" model, expecting I'd like it better, but the 2x12" sounded better/fuller to me.

I am not a fan of Peavey amps at all, but this one caught my ear--it sounds great--warm and very bluesy!! Maybe you, too, can get a deal from a Guitar Center store. I'm like you--50 miles from a major city--but it was worth the trip for what I got.

I tried Fender Blues Jr. and Crate type A amps, and they were both noisy. The Peavey is an A/B type amp, but man, it's absolutely quiet and wreaks of warm blues tone. I got it for almost half of what they sell it for online.

Another amp I suggest you research is the Kustom Coupe 72 and 36. The 72 would be my choice, only because it has their classic tremolo/vibrato (a la John Fogerty and Credence). If I could have afforded it, I might very well have bought one of these. I've been told that John Fogerty is still using the same Kustom amp to this day.

Going up in price range, my next choice would be the Fender Supersonic. But my fave Fender amp is the VibroKing w/3x10" speakers. That coupled to a Strat has killer blues tone without any effects pedals, whatsoever.

I have a feeling we're going to have to wait awhile to see how good the Epiphone Blues Custom 30 is or isn't.

John

Thank you,
I appreciate you getting up with me. I will check out the Peavey amp you mentioned. Maybe I can get lucky and find one at a good price.
