Hello Fellow Fender fans,

I bought a 1994 fender blues deluxe this past summer for very reasonalbe coin. As much as I like this amp, it is way too strong for me. this amp deserves to be loud and proud.

This brings me to my question. What is a good number to move this amp. It does have some stains that dont seem like they will clean up. Of course I need to factor in the cost of a refit vs selling like it is, and to be honest, it is pretty sharp for its age.

More importantly, what would be a good replacement all tube amp... Hopefully an all tube, foot pedal friendly, headphone compatible Fender.

I am a novice player and I'm trying to learn classic rock and 90's alternative. Basically Floyd, Aerosmith and Nirvana songs are my liking.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi,

I know this doesn't answer your question, but may I suggest you try the Distance = Depth theory. Its not how loud you push the amp, its where you are in relation to the amp and the volume relationship. I find that the blues deluxe has a great tone no matter what volume you set it at but you just have to find your sweet spot (same with most amps I guess).

What I like to do is move either 15 deg left or right of the front/center of the amp then find a location for me to set up then turn up the amp until you find that sweet spot. When I do this, I am never too loud. You want to go louder, you must move farther from the amp and then find its sweet spot again. This technique can also save your ears :)

It works for me but this may or may not work for you.

Also, another alternative is that the 6L6GC power tubes which the amp come with have a very high threshold before drive, so you can also change these tubes for the tubes that do break up earlier. Friends have done this and they were happy with the result.

Sorry if this post didn't answer your question. :)

I looked over Ebay and have found no '94 Blues Deluxe available. I think between $600 to $800 is fair. You could sell for higher since there are no other sellers on Ebay but it may move slower or depending on market demand, may not matter. I personally think it may sell higher as long as it is in a good condition + like I said, no other competitor/sellers.

As a lower output alternative, a 22w '65 Deluxe Reverb would be my personal choice. It has less bass, a little more natural high's than the blues deluxe, but you'll need the high's to cut through anyways since it is only 22w. It has no headphones capabilites though. You can get a 2nd hand reissue over ebay between $500 to $700. Brand new at guitar center is over $800 so I would pay $500 but not $700 for a 2nd hand, else, I would just get it new at guitar center. The warranty alone is worth it.

I've seen several reissues in the 500+ range on Craigslist here, just not sure its a comparable unit. this is USA made and near as I can tell all original. I had a quote of $120 to redo the exterior of the amp with new tweed, but since I cleaned it up, I dont think it's worth the extra cake as it doesn't effect the tone, it sounds good, I just cant use it when the wife and dog are sleeping, lol.

It is heavy, thats what keeps me from putting it on ebay. Thanks for your efforts. I'm still undecided what to do. Normally I buy the replacement before I sell the original, then I keep the original for a while, lol.

Blues Deluxes arent anything special on the used amp market.I have seen them go for 400-500 range.I would think an older one maybe for 450-550 range would be realistic.

Yep, maybe even less. I've seen really clean mid to late 90's Blues Deluxes for $350-400. It depends on how many are available in your area and what the market will bear. On a trade-in only expect $225-275. I'd Craiglist it. Some folks may pay a little more if they're made in the US.

Hello,

I put the Blues Deluxe on my local CL and got an offer of a late 70's Silverface Champ and some cash (100) in trade. According to my trader, his champ is "mint" and a collectable. The pictures seem to agree with the mint. I got a bigger offer in cash (450), but the guy is 2.5 hrs away, so that's not gonna happen unless I drive there. Are these amps really becoming collectors items? the Fender Field guide site lists the approx value of that amp at 275 based on recent ebay sales.

Should I make the trade or drive the 2.5 hrs?

I have a 74 Silverface Champ. They go from $250-300. I got mine for $150 about 20 years ago without even truing it out. I wouldn't give him any cash. It should be roughly an even swap. You would still be getting the better end of the deal.

Thanks for the reply! Actually he is adding the cash, not me. He had a Blues Deluxe years ago and likes them. He did ask me to check for a mode glitch where the amp will switch to overdriven mode after it warms up all by itself, and then get no sound at all. I will be checking it tonight when I practice for a bit, but I havent noticed this glitch.

I wish I could get replies like that when I put something up on craigslist. Instead, I get insultingly low offers, and then complaints about having to pick up the item. Most people want something for nothing, delivered to their door.

I'd jump on that deal before the guy changes his mind.

For $20 you can buy a volume box (or make one) that will help control the volume. Plug it into the effects loop (if it has one) and turn the amp volume up to what ever you want and just adjust the volume box. You'll get alot of power to the preamp tubes and the tone will sing.
