I'm considering buying a 1994 Fender 'red knob' The Twin amp I found at a music store nearby, on consignment for $650. Seems to play real nice, cosmetically good/very good (to my untrained eyes anyway). Would like any and all opinions on this amp but I'm not interested in the ongoing debate of tube vs SS. I love the sound of tubes and already have a solid state amp. Just looking for some help from those who are much more knowledgeable than me.
Thanks,
Olguy :?:

They're just okay, but if you like it it's all that counts, but that seems kind of steep for a red knob Twin. You could probably get a Silverface for the same money. I've had a master volume SF for over 30 years and it's great as long as you don't pull the master volume boost. It's been totally reliable too.

If you really like it, see if they'll move on the price. I wouldn't go more than $500 for it.

+1.I had a 75 Super Reverb that was built like a tank and paid 625 for it .Like Supro says , check out the silver face Twins. They are in the same price range and unless you actually use the master volume knob, sounds pretty good.

Hi there Olguy, just from an old amp tech guy, those amps can be very troublesome to work on. Not that they are especially unreliable, but troubleshooting and repairs can mean some pretty serious bench-time. They are nothing like the old Twin Reverbs. Art

I believe the red knob twin is the one that used to be referred to as the "Evil Twin". Hopefully someone will jump in & correct me if I'm wrong.
Some were overly troublesome. Try google to help you find info.

Years ago I rented one for a month & found out it was useless for anything except stage work. It was too loud when volume was set to 2 & did not sound good on anything less. If you could play it loud, it sounded beautiful.
How/where you will be using it should be a major part of your decision.

The previous couple of posts are sorta pointing you away from the evil one.......

Went back and looked at the red knob twin again today. You guys were right, that thing is a beast, and the guy won't budge on the price even though no one but me has shown any interest. I am going to take your advice and the advice of many others on here and look for a DRRI. It sounds like it would be a good choice for my bedroom playing now and maybe in the future a "playing out" rig.
Thanks for your help,
olguy
