JJ's. However, this is a slightly misguided question, because GT does not make tubes - the distribute them with a new name.

I believe the GT 6L6-S is the rebranded JJ 6L6GC.

The GT 6L6-R (aka 6L6B) is the Sovtek 5881WXT.

Non-GT tubes (and by that I mean the EXACT same tube) can be purchased from retailers at much better prices than the GT rebranded tubes.

Yes, the R version is the russian (sovtek) tube, the S version is the slovokian (JJ/tesla) version.

Personally, i think its more important to have the amp correctly biased by a tech... than to spend the extra money buying "premium matched sets" of tubes....

Never mind Mesa-Boogie's approach... fixed bias, but biased cold... tubes really don't get the chance to warm up and properly cook.... "sounds like a mule fart thru a wet towel"

Neither really. For the current market tubes you can't beat TungSol in a fender. dougstubes.com is a jam up guy and makes sure all tubes are tested before selling them.

JJ's used to be really good but all the newer ones have been testing bad. They seem to have dropped the ball on QA.

JJ's The GT's that come with the amp are garbage. They're sturdy but sound terrible. When you change them out and bias the amp you'll know what I'm talking about. It's like getting a whole new amp.

Hi flamekaster,

I have a 63 Supro Martinique. It's a reso-glas guitar. It's white with the plastic gumby headstock, two humbucker-type pickups and a piazo type of pickup under the bridge. It has six tone and volume knobs (a pair for each pickup) and a master volume control. It also has a zero fret and the action is like a Les Paul Fretless Wonder. It's a really cool guitar. I've had it since I was 10 years old. It sounds awesome.

I also have an all original 72 Strat that I've had since it was new,(great guitar) an original 57 Dano U1 that was found in the trash and an Ibanez Artcore AS73 that I like a lot.
