Can I put a 16 ohm speaker ( Celestion G12M-70 16 Ohm) in a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that had a stock Eminence Legend 50 watt 8 Ohm speaker in it? Thank you!

Two 16-Ohm speakers wired in parallel would work :)

Putting a 16 on a circuit designed for 8 puts much a heavier resistance into the path than the circuit was designed for, and with the inexpensive components used in the HotRods that is looking for trouble.

Same goes for putting in smaller loads than designed like a 4 or 2 ohm, the output transformer would not be very happy

Thank you. We were going to just take out the original and put in this one. Thanks for saving us the problems!

I'm not 100 % sure, but I think you can safely use a 4 ohm speaker if you conect an empty jack (dummy) into the second speaker output of the HRD. At least that´s what the HRD instructions say. Hope it helps. Cheers!

while that may work, it also creates a speaker impedance mismatch if you want to use your amp with an 8 ohm extension cabinet.

I'd stick with an 8ohm, be it Celestion, Weber, Scumback, or Eminence (other versions)
