Having owned them bj & dlx, currently still have a HotRodBluesDeluxeRI.
I'd say neither is a good choice, I'm one of the camp that has really grown to dislike the entire hot-rod series of amps.

A ddri would be a good choice,
or if you want the option of 6l6/el84 power a Egnater Rebel 20 has both types of power tubes in it at the same time.

The Rebel has 6V6 and EL84 Power tubes. You can blend them in any proportion you like. Here's another story.
Last week a friend of mine who's an incredible player asked if he could try my Egnater Rebel 20 at his rehearsal. He A/B'd it with a HRDlx . The HRD isn't his it was in his rehearsal space. He had the HRD on 5 and he was still trying to get over the bass player, keyboard player and drummer. He didn't think the Rebel would cut until he gave it a try and at around 10:00 on the Rebels volume dial it cut like a knife and sounded glorious with his 335. We only used one of my 112 cabinets too. He had plenty of headroom. He was totally blown away by the little Rebel. The Rebel wasn't even at half volume and is half the power HRDlx. It's not all about watts. It's the sum of the parts that counts.
