Can 5751, 12AY7, 12AT7 12AU7 preamp tubes be used for amps that have 12AX7's? I have read that it doesn't matter which type of tube amp you have, you can use any type of the preamp tubes that I listed above.

Is this true?

+1 That's what I put in my Egnater to cut some of the gain. I like NOS JAN Phillips. Nice sounding tube.

I swapped out a new JJ for a NOS Philips JAN 12AX7WA in V2 of my Bandmaster and it's a huge difference.

Mike K at KCA NOS tubes is the guy and will be happy to talk tubes - tell him your amp, playing style, tone goals and budget and he will be happy to make recommendations.

The ecc803 is also a great sounding tube for V1. May want to try that one out sometime. Have fun....

The RCA 7025 is a very nice tube and quiet. The RCA 5751-command is the finest sounding of these tubes. IMO Art
