I've got to have classic Fender clean sound available. I used a '60s era Vibrolux for years and went to a Twin II head in '84. Tired of lugging the Twin, I got a Hot Rod Deluxe. For some things, it's fine but it has NO true clean. Anyone have experience with the VM amps, specifically the Bandmaster or Deluxe? They're very intriguing but so was the HRD. I liked the Bandmaster in the store but you never know what you have until you get in a gig situation and call on it for real volume. I'd like to get opinions from some owners of these models.
Thanx...

I tried both the Deluxe and the Super Champ XD. I loved both. The SCXD won out in the end because I don't play huge venues so the 15 watts mic'ed is more than enough for what I do. The Deluxe is a sweet amp as well. If I played larger halls I would get that one! Hope that this helps.

IMO, the clean tone on the Super champ XD is excellent. I can't tell you if it's the "classic Fender clean tone" you're looking for, but I can tell you I find it nice and warm. And a few of the DSP models are of different Fender (and "British) amps on a clean setting, like tweed, blackface, Jazz King and Acoustasonic amps.

I've been playing the Deluxe VM for nearly a year now. The clean sound is awesome and the distortion channel sounds really good too and can go anywhere from just a little dirt to full blown hard rock. The volume varies from a loud bedroom (it's not a practice amp) to loud enough for most small clubs without a mic. It's also very portable, any bigger and I'd need a dolly for it, any smaller and it wouldn't be loud enough. The first one I had had a problem with the footswitch, but Fender (particularly Brad) sorted everything out very quickly and replaced it with one that works perfectly. I've demoed several other Deluxe VMs at various guitar stores, and none of them had any problems so the footswitch issue appears to have been a fluke.

By now there must be some good demos on youtube, so if you want to hear what it sounds like do a search on youtube and you'll probably come up with something. :)

DRRI hands down. It's a better built amp and sounds way better IMHO than any of the HRD or VM series amps. It is THE "Classic Fender Sound".

I agree - the VM amps are gimmicky - you're corralled into their effects. Get a Deluxe Reverb Reissue, play it, and figure out what pedals you want with it.

I own both of these amps as well as a '75 twin reverb. The DRRI is awesome, but I will say, the Deluxe VM is fantastic and has the best onboard distortion I've ever heard. In addition, the digital effects offered are handy and not overpowering. With the proper dialing in, they are actually useful, not "gimmicky." I owned a Hot Rod Deluxe at one time as well; the 212 and the 410 version. This is not comporable to those at all. Those amps were tinny junk. I love the VM Deluxe. The Twin is too heavy to be practicle and the DRRI is great for recording and a small club gig, but the VM can get you between DRRI and Twin territory as well as giving it's own unique flavor. Teles forever!

I almost got a Deluxe VM, but I didn't need the effects and Best buy was clearing the Super Sonic for $800. If it wasn't for that I would've grabbed one

I smell a troll.I have to agree about the drri.Best of the clean and YOU get to decide on the effects. The overdrive may be doing it for you at the present time, but 2-3 years down the road you or your band may want to go in a different direction and then you are stuck. With the drri the possibilities are literally endless.

Seriously like budglo said, get a DRRI and get your own pedals. I call the VM series Vintage Molested. I'm not saying they're junk and don't get your panties in a bunch if someone does, it's only an opinion, but there is nothing "vintage" about them. The only thing vintage is the name. They are hybrids and sound very honey and digital to me. Digital effects are not my cup of tea at all but YMMV.

The DRRI is a quality built amp built for the long haul, the VM's aren't. I tried one of the Bandmasters and the grill fell off. I had a 73 SF Bandmaster and it is nothing at all like any Bandmaster I ever played or owned on my life. I felt like I was bait and switched. :(

I am not a troll. I am one "Hot Tamale". I thought i had a right to give my opinion and I stand by it.

By the way budglo maybe you should get out more often instead of sitting in front of the computer all of the time. Learn to interact with people in a social situation...maybe then you wouldn't call people names like troll just because they gave an opinion you didn't like. You have over 1000 post in a little over two months time. Get a life.

OZZY RULES!!!
