So I started playing guitar again after many years and bought a Strat and a Spider III 75w last January and Tele just before Christmas . Been having fun and making lots of noise!

While I really like the Spider for all the effects, I have to say I know less than a third of the bands whose tunes are on it! I'm not into shredding or metal...just Classic Rock, Blues and some Country. Though I like playing with the effects since I have no pedals.

I was thinking of buying a entry Fender for the pure-tone.
I'm looking at these two:
http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 2316500010
http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 2331100000

Both in the same price range but seemingly the Frontman has more and bigger speakers vs. the SCXD. The SCXD though has a clean and effects channel where the FM has only one channel.
The SCXD is a hybrid where the FM is SS. I'm hearing that the SS are better at being quiet vs. the hybrid and may have the edge on reliability.
What's a boy to choose?

Or am I wasting my money with either Fender and will be able to get the same tones out of the Spider III with tweaking of the knobs?

No, you cant get those tones with the spider, unfortunately its no where near as great as some of the other amps Line 6 do.

Looking from your selection, i presume is around $400, $450.

From the same budget, if you really enjoyed the effects in your spider, have a look at the line 6 Flextone III. Great sounding amp, im pretty sure its one of the best SS amps ever made (Next to the Line 6 Vetta).

If your hearts set on valve, go for the super champ XD.

tubes~
you can always put effects in the mix
tube amp will cut thru and be alot warmer in tone

you can experiment by going into the store
and power up a tube amp and a SS (with the same speaker arrangement)
example: 1X12 ss & a 1X12 tube
and ask the sales person to play thru one while u play thru the other (without effects), and then balance each other's volume.
you'll prob understand what i mean
To ME, you have to have the tone right to begin with, and then you can add a lil' delay, reverb, gain, etc.
Like good food it begins with the stock first
but hey it is YOUR amp you are buying
good luck
