I want to build an xtra cabinet for a Blues Jr, do I sealed the back?
or should it be open, like the original. except for the valve section?

or
Would it be better to build a completly new cabinet with 2x12
like a Blues Deluxe...
It would have a little more bass. ? (not sealed)

Thank you for the response

Is this a cabinet for your BJ to be sat on and plugged into or are you planning on putting the guts of the BJ into a new Cab?

Well I personally like my cabinets to be closed completely on the back. Its a matter of personal preference. I ran my BJ into a closed back 2x12 for a while and it sounds great. There is nothing wrong with an open back cabinet though. Alot of guys even prefer them.

this might be a helpful read for you

http://guitarsandgear.sweetwater.com/20 ... -quotient/

also check this out and see how they do open back cabs its a little different than you describe. (look at the pics)

http://www.drzamps.com/speakercabs.html

here is some info i snagged off a different forum

Assuming two identical speakers in two identical cabinets, one open back and one closed back, the open back cabinet will have a chimier, more open and complex sound, will spread the sound around the room a lot more, will have looser bass response (but lots of speakers are designed for this, so that doesn't mean you won't have any bass if you have the right speakers). The closed back cabinet will be tighter, punchier, "simpler" and less complex sounding, less "airy" sounding, and much more directional (less sound at the back and sides). If you want to sound like Angus Young, or the Ramones, for instance, that's a closed back cabinet sound. If you want to sound like Tom Petty, that's an open back cabinet sound for the most part.

To complicate this more, some speakers don't sound right in open back cabs, like the Celestion G12M Greenback, which has too small a magnet structure, the bass gets flubby and the breakup gets trashy (not in a good way) in open back cabs, but in a closed back 2x12 or 4x12 these speakers sound great. Conversely, some speakers don't sound great in closed back cabs. The Celestion Alnico Blue sounds much better in an open back cab - it has plenty of bass response either way, but it has more complexity and opennes and chime in the open back cab, it sounds "simpler" and "constricted" in a closed back cab.

If you want some help with this from the forum, let us know what guitars and amp(s) you have, what kind of music you play and what kind of sound you want. References to specific recordings would be helpful - like "I want to sound like Angus Young on Back in Black" or " I want to sound like Tom Petty on Running Down a Dream" - that sort of thing lets people give you specific recommendations.

Hope this helps

-Vince

Ill measure up the cab itself for you, but i put Celestion G12P-80's in it, I had V30's in it but i thought they were too piercing in the high end.

I do not need the exact dimensions,
So the way i see it, your disconect your speaker in the Bjr and connect
your exterior cab, your cab speakers must read 4ohms (2x8ohms) ? right
Did you have any mod on your Bjr for that load ? or you just load your
amplifier at 4 ohms ?

is your cabinet a custom made? or build up yourself ?

I am wondering if I should built a 1x12 cab same size as blues jr
driving the Bj's 12" plus cab
or
1x12 cab same size a as HRD dimensions again w/Bjr's 12"
or
2x12 cab as obove but without the Bjr's 12" only the amp driving the 2x12

I'm into Blues/rock/country/
equipment Strats/Teles/ the sound that i am into is like Rory Galligher sound
little saturated. I like the Bjr because, it is not a very powerfull amp, so I can drive it
Otherwise having something bigger, well it is to loud to drive.

Very interesting

Thank you for you help.

PS you might find some bizarre sentence, this is because I am mainly French.

*Correct*

your cab speakers must read 4ohms (2x8ohms)

no, if its wired in series ( i think i could have this backwards) it is an 8 ohm load. I know the load is 8 ohms im just not sure if its wired in series or parralel.

Did you have any mod on your Bjr for that load ? or you just load your
amplifier at 4 ohms ?

(Do not put a 4 ohm cab on a BJ it will ruin it)

is your cabinet a custom made? or build up yourself ?

built myself

or

(the reason i went to an external cab is because of tube rattle when i got the amp into overdrive) im not sure how you plan to run your BJ stock 12" and a extension cab at the same time, but then again its 1am here and my brain isnt at its sharpest...which isnt very sharp at all.

It is wire in series, to have an 8ohms load, but if one goes out the other
will stop working, leaving the amp with no load, could damaged the amp.

The Blues jr can run a 4ohms load easy, it can do it without any problem, it will
use up the tubes a little bit and that all but it won't ruin it

I am curious, could you tell me what size approx is your cabinet ?

its the same size as my supersonic, literally just enough room to get 2 speakers in.

You can design the cabinet to have a removable back so you can run it either way. You'll then have the best of both worlds. Personally, I like closed back ported cabinets. Closed back cabinets work much better outside and in larger venues. The sound can be very complex in a closed back cabinet depending on how well the amp's designed.

Here's an example

http://www.egnateramps.com/Tourmaster212X.html#

This is one of the hundreds of reasons I switched to Egnater.
