Hi, my Fender HRDX blew a tube I had replaced 2 months ago. Before it worked flawless for 15 years. I kind of find it fragile for my intended puropses, which are moving the amp a lot and playing gigs. Also I play either clean funk or heavy metal. I´m tired of being nervous about those tubes, and never really liked the Fender distortion, I need more power and a bullet proof amp that is loud.
I´m thinking on selling the HRDX and getting myself a decent solid state amp. Since I´ve never used solid state amps am pretty ignorant on the subject, well, once I played 100w Crate and liked the sound. I´ve read solid sate amps deliver a good "clean" tone, which is importatnt to me, and the aggresive distortions can be good too.
Can anyone recommend? Crate? Peavey? what should I look 4 in a solid state amp?

Try a Fender Frontman 212 excellent clean and very loud. You'll probably want pedals however for better distortion.

if you can afford it, nothing beats the cyber twin se (from a lot of personal experience). great runner up is the roland JC-120 and good runners up are the line 6's. i am sure there are others like hughes and kettner, but i can't vouch for them because i haven't tried them. I can only recommend what i know! ditto on tubes, my frustration with them led me to the cyber twins and i have never looked back. in fact i have discovered a new world of tones much better than usual and ordinary.

ciao,
johnny.
