I've recently become a big fan of www.zzounds.com. A month ago I bought a closeout SKB hard-case for my les paul for $70. Today I bought a C. Rex for $65. Between their discounts and price matching, good deals can definitely be had.

Anyway, plugging aside, I'm excited to see what this speaker will sound like in my BJ. I know it's a favorite among forums, so I'm curious to see if it will live up to the hype.

I have the NOS tweed with the jensen and it sounds sweet, but I've always found the bass lacking. I'm hoping the CR will tighten it up a bit. I'm also replacing the stock EL84s with JJs, which can only be an improvement.

Please give a review when you get the CR!

Well to me, the Cannabis Rex is easily their best sounding speaker. Mind you, I have only listened to their sound samples from the eminence website.

I'm also interested in how these sound live.

Still waiting for that review! I'd like to know how it compares to the stock Eminence speaker.

It's really tight in that BJ cabinet.

At the risk of sounding like a saddo, I hope that the Rex fits the limited space. There are many drivers that wont - a Celestion Blue is one as I discovered to my horror..

Don't go by the sound samples. The size and type of the cabinet, closed back, open back, closed ported etc. as well as the materials it's made from can make or break the tone of any speaker. The Ragin Cajun is also a great speaker. The stock speaker in the BJ cabinet always sounded a little boxy to me. If you can't get the Rex in, I'd get an empty extension cabinet from Avatar. http://www.avatarspeakers.com/ They do sell some guitar cabs unloaded. The Blued Jr through a good extension cab/speaker sounds pretty nice.

Agreed.. I ended up with a V30 in mine and it sounds very fine indeed.

Hey guys. Sorry for not giving a prompt review of the C Rex.

It fit into the BJ no problem and it sounded really good. It's hard for me to give a decent review on the speaker because I didn't spend enough time with it. I put about 10 hours of playing time into the speaker, and then ended up selling the amp, but it wasn't for a dislike of the amp or the speaker.

See my other thread: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34598

I've heard that the hemp cone takes a long time to break-in (30-40 hrs; not sure if that's completely accurate), so the amount of time I put into it might not have been enough to bring out the speaker's full capabilities.

I bought the CR because I wanted to tighten up the bass in my BJ, which it did, but the difference wasn't exactly night and day. I think the issues I had with bass response were more inherent of the amp rather than the speaker. Granted, the CR was fuller than the Jensen. It was also somewhat darker; not blanket over the amp darker, just not as bright as the Jensen. I think that the speaker did just what many other reviewers have stated: made the tone slightly more full and round, and darkened/warmed the amp up a bit. If I were to have kept the amp I would have left the speaker in for a good while to ensure break-in and see how it sounded.

I figured that for $65 it was worth a try. I got my money back when I sold it on Craigslist, and the guy who bought it told me he loves the CR in his DRRI.

Aha, so I was worrying unnecessarily about the fit into your BJ.

Good luck with the Supro - read nothing but good things about those beauties..

I have a C- Rex in my BJ and I love it. I found that initially I had to turn up the treble a bit on my guitar and amp, but after it broke in, it got brighter, but a nice chimmy -brighter. If you want to really tighten the bottom I recommend that you consider investing $50 and put in a T020 output transformer . I put one in both my BJ and PRRI and it does the trick.

Just don't put that CR into a 100 Watt 112 Boogie.
You don't want to learn the alternate meaning of the term "smokin' that speaker".
There's very little THC in Hemp doncha know ....
'Tain't worth it.

I installed my CR in my BJr in about 20 minutes. Fits perfect. No issues. Sounds fantastic. I got mine as a demo from SWEETWATER.I bagged it for $85. I have the manufacturer warranty and the tech said it had about 15 Hrs playing time on it. A BIG plus since it takes time for the CR to really break in. I also put in the SRV JJ tube kit from Eurotubes. My Strats sound marvelous with the combo..
