My son recently moved back in and brought his Fender Cybertwin with him. I noticed as he played, the amp sounded flat, but he plays with a lot of effects. I was setting up my old Schecter PT tonight and used his Cybertwin's tuner, love that feature. Got it set up, changed the amp to Bassman 58 and the sound is seriously F'd up.

Thought I should start from strep one, turned the guitar volume all the way up, set the trim to just light the red indicator with aggressive play, was about 6.5. Set the amp to Bassman 58, same over driven, flat sound? Tried adjusting the Master volume, Gain and Volume, nothing touched it.

So now I'm thinking, maybe my guitar is f'd! I get my son's guitar, plug it in, same BS. Went through the same procedure, same results. Tried different amp models, same crap sound!

So, plug both guitars into my Vox, immediately the volume is way too high, turn the guitar volume down, smooth glass like chime out of both guitars.

Bottom line, what should I being looking at here. . . tube, speaker blown, power supply. This is a first generation Cybertwin with the update that came out right after the amp, was my first Cybertwin that I handed down to him.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the pre-package tones aren't so hot.

bassman 58 has the following presets:
amplifier tone stack: british
drive circuitry: tweed tube 1
stack position: post distortion
speakers: standard
effects: none
reverb type: fender reverb, dwell=5.48, tone-5.48, time=5.48, diffusion=5.48
timbre: full body
noise gate: on
gain:8.8
volume:5.3
treble:9.0
middle:1.1
bass:4.5
presence:8.2
reverb:1

possible issues, suggestions:
tone stack:tweed or blackface
timbre: bright&light
gain: 4
volume: 6
treble: 7
middle: 5
bass: 6

it's a complicated amp. see generalcybersystems.com, manual is free and my give you a few clues to what's in the amp.

ciao,
johnny.

try a factory reset. all cybers have one tiny problem: they can get polluted with bad settings that drives the software nuts and puts the amp into a funny state (the cyber twin software is not bullet proof as we have discovered on several occasions). a factory reset will wipe out your player's lounge, but it also puts the amp into a factory fresh software state and should restore factory fresh tone. you should be able to hear the subtle tonal variations as you cycle through the settings - twin settings sounds like twin, same for bassman, etc... but if this does not happen and everything is sounds as bad as before the reset, then the problem is most likely a hardware problem. service is possible only with an authorized Fender tech, it is not a simple amp to fix. i hope a factory reset cures the problem, wish you good luck,

ciao,
johnny.

johny, I got it, bad guitar cable! Can't believe I didn't try it at the time, but found a post that had basic checks, sure enough, replaced the cable it it's fine. I threw out a cable when my some first came home, plugged it in and every time you bumped it it popped through the amp. Live and learn!

Think I'll take your suggestion and do a reset on the amp. I'll wait for him to be sure he doesn't have anything important stored.
