Hi All,

Looking for some advise on getting the Reverb knob on my Blues Deluxe to actually do something....

I recently brought a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, US 95 model. The reverb has never worked - i thought it was faulty, then I read that it can only be turned on and off via footswitch. Bit strange....but fair enough i thought. Then it really gets strange, the amp came with a single button footswitch, for channel select. I though maybe I had just been given the wrong one, but a quick check on ebay, and it seems that all Blues Deluxes come with a single button channel select footswitch stock. The advertising clearly says "...features reverb...which is activated by 2 buton footswitch".

The curent online cataloge from fender.com offers a two-button, Channel Selct / Reverb select footswitch for the Blues Deluxe (Part No 0994056000)

Have I got it all wrong, or do all Blues Deluxe owners throw the sock one button footswitch away and pay $60 for a new 2 button switch just to use the reverb?

Cheers
MadMustang

you need the exact fender 2 button footswitch for that amp. It originally shipped with a detachable 2 conductor cable (like a standard guitar cable). Switching was done with a circuit board inside the footswitch which corresponded with the switching circuitry inside the amp. It is NOT a simple on/off footswitch (although one will work, it will only control channel selection).

the blues deluxe/deville and the hot rod deluxe/deville footswitches are NOT interchangeable. the blues series footswitch switches channels and reverb on/off. the hot rod series switches channels and gain boost.

I can understand the confusion as when I was considering the purchase of a Blues Deluxe Reissue, I found conflicting information regarding whether it came with a one or two button footswitch. I finally contacted a Fender Customer Svc. Rep who advised that it is a two button footswitch. This is the current model purchased June 2007.

The part number of the 2-button footswitch for this model is: P/N0028122000 for switching channels plus on/off of the reverb. Other Fender footswitches will work, such as P/N 0057664000 which is for a Princeton 650 SS amp (and others). I know this to be fact as I used the one from my Princeton while the other was being repaired. The difference is the face plate. On the Blues Deluxe Reissue, it says “Channel and Reverb” and on the Princeton, it says “Channel and Effects”. If you know someone with a SS Fender amp and a two button switch, ask them to borrow it and try it.

Fender Footswitches can be purchased on-line from either Musician’s Friend or Music123 for around $35. If you are purchasing other items, shipping may be free and sometimes it is even free for orders over $29.

Having said all that I think that you have a problem with either your reverb or the electronics inside the amp which turn reverb on/off. Several weeks back my footswitch went bad and I was playing the amp without it. If memory serves me; without the footswitch, the Reverb is always active (you just turn the volume to “0” if you don’t want any) and channel switching is via the little square button on the control panel. I almost always set the Reverb and do not switch it on/off while playing, so if I had a one button switch for channel switching and the reverb was active via the vol. knob, it would be satisfactory to me. Perhaps that would suit you also. To be sure, contact Jeff Krause @ Fender, email address: custserv@fenderusa.com. and ask him if the reverb should work if no footswitch is attached. It would be a shame to buy a new (or used) footswitch and find out the reverb is defective.

Good luck. The amp is a great sounding one, but I too have had some minor, but quite annoying, problems with mine.
