I have a similar problem with my Ultimate Chorus but thats a solid state amp. I have been trying to figure that one out for 2 years. I have 3 electric guitars and I get the same buzz on both amps. It is a vibration not hum.

Are you sure it's not something in the room? I had something like the and it wound up being some metal stand in the room.

I have recently moved and the Ultimate Chorus still buzzes. The Traynor is new and I have yet to move it into a different room.

Are you around florescent lights, computer monitors or cell phones? Sorry about the 50 questions. It's really puzzling.

No flourescents but I am near a flatscreen monitor in both houses. The UC buzzed at a jam. I moved the Traynor into another room and still get the buzz.

Are you using any effects? Also have you tried a different cord? Did you try plugging your guitar and rest of your setup into some else's amp?

Because it happens on both your amps, I seriously doubt it's the amps. I'm thinking the guitar, pickups, cord, effects or power supplies to the effects or possibly just "dirty" electricity in the house.

Here's a different stab at your problem. Hows your pickup height? If the pups are too close to the string, it can cause problems too.

I typically don't use effects, just plugged straight into the amp. I have 2 decent cables and a few cheap ones. Seems to happen with both cables. I had all 3 electrics set up in June, but i doubt pick up height was adjusted. I am not too sure what height they are set at to be perfectly honest. I could try to adjust to see if it changes. The vibration typically happens on the bass strings. I have dropped the bass level on the UC and it helps but it is still present. I took the UC into the shop in May and they cleaned contacts and tightened everything up. At the shop it played fine (with shop guitar). Took it home and it buzzed. Took it back (while my guitars were being set up) and used my strat and it sounded fine. Took it home and it buzzed. I have moved since then but set up the new office pretty much the same as the old one.
I will check into the pick up issue. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. I appreciate your help in determining this issue, 63supro.

Here's something you can try yourself. Lower the bass side of one of the pickups maybe a turn or so and try it. If it improves, go a little lower. Just keep track of how many turns you go or just take a measurement from the string to the pickups pole piece. You could be getting a little string pull too if the pups too high.

Well I tried adjusting the pickups on my strat. They were lower than Fender's 2mm specs already and I lowered them one turn more. Still the same. I guess I should take it back to get checked out.

When I had my Bandmaster redone, there was an odd buzzing that would happen at my home, and disappear when I got the the shop to show it - drove me crazy. Almost called in an electrician when it happened again, put it in my car and drove over and it happened at the shop as well. Turned out it was a bad input jack.

Have a shop go over it, as it could be something minor like that, or could be filter caps.

On your Traynor, I might suggest the Dr. Z Brake Lite attenuator - mounts easily on the inside of your cab, and lets you dial down your amp in places where you don't need all 40 watts, but you want the power tubes going pretty full. I gig with either my Princeton Reverb and a 1x12 extension cabinet, or the bandmaster and the Brakelite. Worth checking out if you play live.
