Hey Everyone,

I own a Fender Roc Pro 1000. I've had it for 7 years, though I have noticed there is a buzz/hum that's been present for a good majority of the time. I've come to the conclusion that I haven't replaced the 12AX7A tube inside of it. I was going to replace it with a Mesa 12AX7A tube, but wasn't sure if that were possible. Is it possible? Also, if buzz/hum is still present even if I do replace the tube, what else should I look for to see what the problem is? I also haven't changed the speakers for my Marshall 4x12 cab. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

I know this isn't very helpful, but I've got a similar problem... I've had the head for about the same amount of time, and it's had the buzz for as long as I can remember. It's the only thing about this amp that sucks.

Can anyone confirm or deny that it's a matter of replacing the tube? I was under the impression that the clean channel on this amp was solid state, but I still hear the buzzing when I'm using it. Could it just be that this amp has that problem regardless of the tube?

I bought my Roc-Pro back in the 90s when they were first released and gigged with it a lot, run it with a Fender 4-12 cabinet of older vintage. I haven't turned it on in a few years and couldn't remember if it hummed or not, so I plugged it in just now and thumped it a bit, first a Strat, then an old HB Electra,

It does hum, a little in clean and more in overdrive, more with the SC, of course. I cranked it up a bit and that head really puts out the juice, amazingly loud. I guess I should play it more often. I've never done a thing with it in all these years, so no idea if a tube swap would change anything, but personally, I doubt it.

Have a Performer 650 the ill-fated predecessor of the Rok Pro. No buzz or excessive hum on clean. Hum does show up on drive. Bad thing is, to change the tube, you have to remove the chassis and then the big black shrink tubing that holds the 12AX7 in place.
Sure hope your Rock-Pro is easier to swap the tube out. (I only found the tube when I installed some tilt-back legs)

I had the same problem with my ROC PRO head and just ignored it. then one day, *POP* and *POOF* started smoking and stopped working. turns out there were some bad solder joints around the heat sink. I ended up melting the fuse clip. Was able to get it fixed with an upgraded heat sink for about $100 and it's been singing since.

...possible recap is in order..that age??? you don't know how long the filter caps were on their shelf when it was built!.
the rocpro/performer are the same unit!
C71-C72 for starters...take a real close look at ALL of the electrolytics for puffy look or plastic label shrunk excessively. the load resistors generate a lot
of heat... which ages/dries out these caps. these combos suffer from vibration TOO! check all pot and load resistor connections.i resolder just out of principal. make sure the transformer wires are properly dressed! all tightly twisted ;either each set to where they go or alltogether .this creates 60cycle hum cancellation. email for more info: dtmole@cccomm.net
tube note : they do wear but not as fast .., they will fail from shock like any tube device..dropping moving without allowing to cool down and so-on
the heat can be cut off...to swap tubes/gains etc.
just use 3 spots of silicone around the tube after install ...its not going anywhere if socket pins are properly tensioned...played my blues jr for 2yrs and NEVER seen any of my preamp tubes fall out...and they sit upside down next to the spkr.... for what its worth....go microphonic yes! LOL
