I was looking for a small amp to practice on and was shown a Bugera Vintage 5 today. Yes... TUBES! Since I'm such a novice (only had my guitar about 4 weeks) I was relying on the knowledge of the staff at the shop to sort of guide me along in the right direction. I really like this little amp. 5, 1, or .1 watts selectable. With the Delta-Tone on the Stratocaster it's easy to get the dirty sound I sometimes like without having to damage my hearing any more than it already is. If I want it clean, that's there too. This thing has a lot of sound in a small package. I know enough to include a couple of pics at the end.

Also looked at a Peavy with all the tricks and 15 watts, but it seemed pretty redundant to the Behringer V-Tone 210. If I want to play with effects, I'll just plug into the big amp.

OK... the pics.

Close. A bit better than playing sans the amp. Actually, more than you might think. I'll probably be using 1 watt a lot. It's mostly for practice when everyone else is doing other stuff. Kids studying, wife watching TV, or whatever. I have some old full-sized KOSS headphones I'll have to dig out and try those too.

I was tired of lugging the 210 around and setting up the pedal and such... just to practice chords. Now all I have to do is grab the Strat, walk in the bedroom, plug in the cable, flip the switch, and play. 8)

Glad you posted this. I've been looking at the same amp and wondered how good, or bad, it might actually be.

That's a cool amp. Since I mostly play in the bedroom, I'm into small wattage amps with big tone.

Having had a few days to play on it, it may well become my favorite amp regardless of the lack of "gimmicks". It's got a great sound with that 8" driver.

Yeah, it's not as diminutive as you might think, I'll try to get a pic of it next to the Strat but you look at the rear shot of the cabinet and measure it up figuring that's an 8" driver and you'll get an idea of the size of it. I actually picked this over a 5 watt Fender that I looked at. The Bugera had a fuller/richer sound (to me) and I liked features like the controls on front where I can easily reach them, headphone jack, etc...

I'm switching back to practice on the big 210 today and am wondering if I'll like it less once I have spent time with the tubes.

edit: Got the picture I wanted with the Strat this morning. BTW... just fooled a bit with the wattage switch for shitzengiggles... with the high efficiency driver, 0.1 watt can give you a lot more sound than you would suspect! More than enough for a small room.

I can't find my KOSS headphones and it's ticking me off.

Each side has a slider to adjust volume to each ear separately.

I know the dear woman I am married to has packed them away somewhere.

yeah, for exactly what u said about it being easy !
that's why i am currently looking for a bedroom amp, ahh should i say tube amp
i have been paying close attention to that lil bugera......
i know it would prob be perfect
i was also looking at the super champ xd, and it sounds great withose 6V6's!
but of course it is a lil too loud for a bedroom amp that will satisfy the rest of my family....if u know what i mean
even a 5 watt tube amp is pretty loud thru the house
with that .1 & 1 watt switch tho, it might be perfect
really looking forward to playing this lil sucker

and yeah, sometimes i just crank my twin-amp at the house and make everyone a lil "ahhhhhhhhh!"
but usually i just wait til they are out. AND if my neighbor is mowing their yard, i can really open 'er up!!

The Vintage 5 retails for about $220 but I found mine previously loved for $140! As new.

There was a 5 watt Fender there as well at the time and it too was a nice little amp at $149. I just liked the sound and features of the Bugera a little better. The more I use it, the better I like it.

I know there is a big faction of folks here that hold the Behringer/Bugera amps with a great deal of disdain and often call them junk and warn to stay away from them, but frankly, I'm not finding a lot of fault with them as of yet.

I just bought the Fender Champion 600 last night.... it may have NO features (volume knob...on/off pilot switch.... high and low inputs).... but man this amp sounds incredible!.... I'm completely blown away by the quality! I wanted a small tube amp for jammin' with my buddies.... playing very small open mic jams and just playing in my bedroom... this amp is outstanding. It just brings out the life in any guitar you plug in.... the lack of features doesn't bother me one bit.... an eq would be useless 'cause the tone is just perfectly amazing lol..... $169 canadian I paid for it... just seems like a steal!

I was thinking about getting a small tube amp myself. I was looking at the Vox head and cab combo, it does like 4 watts, 1 watt and a 1/4 watt I think.

Nice snag! I did like that amp, don't get me wrong, it's a great little tube amp and sounds fantastic. You're going to love it! 8)

I've never heard one but I read a review on it recently and essentially it was touted to have the classic VOX sound and was rated very highly for a small tube amp. That will be a nice score for you! 8)

These little amps can really put out some nice tones with efficient drivers.

I plugged a BOSS DS-1 into the Bugera yesterday and was able to make the Powerhouse Strat really cry for me. I only wish I could play better than I do. Man... progress comes in baby steps.

The problem many people have with Behringer/Bugera is how they get their low prices from ripping off other company's R&D efforts and making shameless, poor quality knockoffs. Glad you're happy with your amp, but there's a reason it's so cheap, and it's not a good thing.

Given the price, don't be surprised when (not if) it craps out; the dealer will most likely give you a new amp vs. fixing the old one. Hold on to your receipts.

If you're in the market for new headphones, the AKG K270M or whatever has replaced it sound great, but also minimize leakage - great for recording when you don't want headphone leakage into your vocal mic. Very comfortable for extended (10 hours plus) wear.

+1 It's not just this forum either. They rip off every major amp and effect manufacturer. Their effects are poorly constructed too and noisy too. Just enjoy the amp. If you're happy, that's all that counts.
