This is my first post! Please be gentle.....

I am a one amp man...so please keep that in mind.

I'm currently using a 1994 USA Blues Deluxe, strictly for cleans (dirt channel sucks) and getting all overdrive out of a few pedals. Current guitars are Fender 57 AVRI with Klein S-5 scooped pickups, Epiphone IBJL Casino, and 1956 Gibson ES-225.

I primarily play at home, but occasionally jam / gig with some guys.

The Blues Deluxe isn't doing it for me anymore, and I'm wondering where to go next. The tone in my head is similiar to the cleans John Mayer gets on "Wait Til Tomorrow". The BD sounds good at home, but as soon as I get into a band mix, it sounds shrill and thin, and the bottom is just not there.

So the options I'm looking at currently:

Fargen Hot Mod on the BD - has anybody done one of these? Clips on Youtube sound interesting, but just curious if this is one of those $400 mods that there will be little to no discernable difference. This is a $400 blind judgement call that I'm not so sure about.

I've also been thinking about a DRRI, Twin, or Supersonic. The versatility of the Supersonic sounds awesome, but I keep hearing that it's not so good at home. I want that classic Fender tone, with serious note definition on chords / single notes - and will get me a nice throaty lead tone when pushed with a TS10 and boost pedal.

What's everybody's thoughts? I'm open to new or used, would like to keep things under a grand...feel free to give me advice on models I haven't mentioned.

Thanks,
Henry

Probably the DRRI is right up your street.

The twin though is the cleanest amp ever, and takes pedals well but the sheer weight of it is mad (64 lbs. (29.03 kg)), but it has got wheels. Oh and its very very loud (85 Watts) where as the DRRI is considerably alot less (25 watts) and alot less weighty (42 lbs. (19.05 kg))

I agree your looking for a lower wattage amp (25 watts) like the DRRI. thats the one i suggest. The supersonic is a fantastic amp and sounds amazing ON STAGE. That sucker is just way to loud for a house or small jam.

Yep, the DRRI is the way to go.I have a blues deluxe and it sounds like a toy compared to the drri.Have had it at some rehearsals and it cuts thru the mix really well. You wont regret it.Way more reliable than the Blues Deluxe too.

bbrodie,

The Egnater Rebel 20 is interesting....but I've read that there's not a lot of clean headroom - what are your thoughts?
