This thread exists so that all of us who pre-ordered the VCXD can rave (when it comes in, that is).

Who else has ordered one besides me?

Post here :-)

Reviews are trickling in at other forums...total raves! The first impression seems to be that the VC blows away all the Vox hybrids with the single 12AX7 front ends and all the other SS modelers. Just no sub for a true tube amp, plus the VC and the SC are going to educate a whole new generation about 6V6s. These are the first inexpensive 6V6-based amps built in a long, long time. The XDs are the Two-Buck Chuck of the amp world.

I can't wait.

The cool thing is that this is a single-ended amp so the distortion should be awesome.

I have a silvertone with a 1-12ax7, 1-6v6, and a 6x4 rectiifer. Plug a strat or tele in, crank the volume up all the way and you get the best distortion ever. Loud, but bearable in a room or home studio environment.

I do flash animations and all the soundtracks for my animations, so a studio amp like this is perfect.

Fender should let us upload clips or animations.

Ah, you've got the 1481! I've got the 1482 with 2-6V6s. Jimmy Page supposedly recorded the first Zep album on it.

Yeah, the VC ought to be the cheapest true studio amp out since the original Champs. And the ability to switch models at the flick of a switch is a huge recording bennie.

Most outsiders think all studio players have banks of Dumbles and Two Rocks piled up in the studio. But the real studio guys use one amp and a small scattering of PODs and pedals to get their tone changed FAST. Speed is everything in the studio, and lets you concentrate on the creative instead of getting snowed under by an avalanche of hardware. The VC is gonna get recorded a LOT!

I received my VCXD 11/5/07 for $220 delivered on a price match. I swapped out the stock Electro Harmonix 12AX7 and 6V6 for a gold pin Tung Sol 12AX7 and a Tung Sol 6V6. Yesterday I sawpped out the Fender speaker for an 8" Weber ceramic with a ribbed cone. I've owned both the Vox AD30VT and the Champion 600 at one time or another. The VCXD sounds much better than both of those. The voices are excellent for most styles of music and the added DSP is a much needed addition to the Champion 600. The amp is a keeper! I can't wait till the SCXD comes out.

FInally received it. Here's the initial review I put on the other thread:

Finally received it!

As with any new amp I get, I put all controls on 5, plug in my Voodoocaster and play some Clean Jimi (Wait Until Tomorrow, Little Wing), Semi-dirty Jimi (Voodoo Child), and Dirty Jimi (Purple Haze).

Usually I adjust the knobs until I get a tone I'm happy with. But this time I kept all the knobs on 5 and just varied the voicing.

Clean sounded great on voice settings 1, 4.

Semi-dirty on 7

Dirty on 13

I'll have to put on my CD and try to match the tones more closely. But I thought I'd give you a quick review.

Excellent amp. Bravo Fender.

I just bought one from Guitar Center. I like it, except it lacks some bass.

One thing I found out is that I get more bass if I crank up the volume some more.

I tend to play later at night, after my wife and kids have gone to bed, with the volume low. Raising the volume even just a bit makes a big difference with the equalization, especially the bass.

I really like this amp!

Gigged mine saturday. I was using a couple of Marshall JCM800's, one set slightly clean with a strong bass sound, the other driven and treble strong. Between the guitar volume and tone controls with pedals I was getting a decent sound.
We had to perform as the gig was a freebie to get a load of biker rally gigs. We wanted to keep the stage clear and look the part. I used the line out straight into the PA. It was tremendous, really responsive and clear. I stay more or less exclusively on the 1st setting the 'tweed champ' sound, occasionaly I'll venture onto the bassman sound. It was very suprising for a small amp that I've had for close on a year. I wont be selling the Marshalls anytime soon but its nice to know theres a workable backup amp there. The clean tones were utterly jaw dropping. I've just listened to the desk recording and cant believe its a modeller. I strongly suspect the 1st setting of that amp bypasses modelling software. It sounds louder to my ear.

Now if only I could get the pre-amp section out of it and run it straight into the effects return of my Marshall. That would be spectacular.

Happy you're liking the amp. I got mine thru craigslist but its still at my sister's place in LA. The amp will be shipped to here in the Philippines soon as i get some tubes and fuse and have them shipped altogether. BTW what particular type of fuse should i get for the vcxd?

The manual for this amp is here
http://www.fender.com/support/manuals/pdfs/manuals_elec/guitarpdf/Vibro_Champ_XD_736CKW009b.pdf

Fuses are listed on page 7. It looks like there is one fuse but it depends on whether you have 120V or 240V model.

Thanks. It says F3AL fuse for 120v. I don't see that type of fuse at tubedepot.com or is that another name for a 3A fuse? They have the fast-acting and slow-blow 3AG glass fuses. Which one should i get?
