cyber twin se. not pure ss, not pure tube, but real interesting in a real good way.

ss, many good amps out there: peavey, tech21, roland JC-120 (any of the JC's), etc...

tubes amps, nothing new in decades, and the really good stuff hasn't been made for decades either.

i suppose i should be expecting a gangbang any moment...

ciao,
johnny.

I prefer tube amps, but I think great guitar players can make any amp sound good, I seen/heard this at many jams, hopefully I will reach that point someday.

Yes! A short answer to the question. Only my opinion though!

You can narrow it down ever further when deciding *which* tubes sound better to your ears.

There are decent and reliable solid state amps, but my preference is tubes.

Check some YouTube clips to hear the difference.

having played ss for years, and now tube amps for 10, tubes are the way to go in my opinion
when I was young, i mostly cranked the gain and played as fast as i could.
sometimes i still do that for fun.
as i got older, i felt the song more, more soul.
some players find this kinda stuff earlier in life, but coincidentally i started finding my own style about the time i started playing tube amps.
playing is playing, music is making music so whatever you are playing or playing thru i think it is all about just opening yourself up and picking the instrument up and doing it
but we all find our comforts and one of them to me is the tube tone.

not to bash ss, but everytime i go jam with a drummer & someone that is using a ss amp, they always keep turning knobs and their sound gets kinda weak or lost, almost like they are on another frequency or something. I don't notice this as much when i'm not playing a tube amp next to them. and that's a fact.... the drummer picks up on it and anyone that happens to be in the room.
everyone is goin to dance to a good song, but it may sound a lil' warmer with tubes that's all
