I bought this Fender footswitch on Ebay and I needed a 2 button footswitch for my Polytone Mega Brute head for channel switching and reverb. The head takes the kind with the common ring/tip/sleeve control from a regular 1/4" plug. I tried this once it arrived and it doesn't light up the LED's or change channels or reverb. I figured maybe it wasn't compatible for some strange reason, but I tried it on my Fender M-80 head and it didn't light up or do anything either.

I did go to a music store and they told me to try a stereo cord, so $16 later it still doesn't work. Can anyone tell me if all Fender footswitches are geared for only specific amps. If I can find my other footswitch for my Fender Deville I'd try that but it must be buried somewhere.

Here is the footswitch I bought:

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never taken it apart but I assume it gets it's power from the amps, so I don't believe there would be a battery connector inside. Power for the LED or not, I wouldn't expect it would change the nature of the footswitch itself as the buttons aren't digital switches, but normal hard click analog latching type switches that wouldn't require power.

According to the Fender website that model works for these amps:
Princeton Chorus, Ultimate Chorus, Power Chorus, Automatics, M80 Chorus

The pedal that is pictured is exactly the same as my 1993 Princeton Chorus pedal, thus the "Chorus" button. I'm not aware of any battery inside. When the overdrive channel or chorus is active, it lights up.

if the footswitch switches the channel, what the heck? use it. the LEDs could have a loose connection, or they could be burned out but that isn't very likely
