I think I may finally break down and get a new amp this year, but I'm not sure what to get. I play mostly rock/metal with a little blues mixed in too. Scorpions, AC/DC, Three Days Grace, Kiss, White Stripes, Metallica etc. I don't play outside of my house/ friends places however I want something loud enough to be heard over my son's drums. I currently have a GDEC Jr. Is a modeling amp the way to go, or a non modeling amp with pedals added later? I will have about $300-350 to spend. Thanks in advance!

Id advise you to take a look at blackstar, really versatile amps at a pretty good price, same with egnator but i dont think they're great for metal.

If your dead set on fender, then maybe a Vibro champ.

thing is your not gonna get a great tube amp for that much dollar.

Solid state wise, have a gander at Fender Frontmans, Marshall Micro-Stacks and MG ranges.

However the best solid state amp on the market by far is a Line 6 Flextone III. This thing is immensely good, i was gigging with one for years till i had enough money to get some of the bigger stuff. Its in your budget and is very loud, way more than enough to get above the drums.

As a card carrying member of the Fender SCXD club, I would like to nominate that one for you..:) Nice tube sound tons of tones and nice fx on board. For SS, I have a really nice little Marshall MG15CDR. I am not one to normally mod, but I did change out the speaker for a Celestion G8 Vintage speaker. That little sucker cranks and has some sweet marshall tone. Hope this helps!

If your looking for loud and sweet overdrive the Fender Super-Sonic will get you there.

Its a few bucks, however its made in America fender and for that type of tunes you will not be disapointed.

One of the best classic rockers i have ever owned !!! bar none.

I guess I should have read the whole post.
at that price range your very limited.

If tone is not a real factor then any of the various asian made modeling amps can be found at pawn shops nation wide.

for around 500 US you can find a Cyber Twin used and have an amp that is full of options and sounds pretty good too.

The 3 amps that I have been looking at the most are the SuperChampXD, Vox VT30, and a Bugera(forget the model) for $350. I play a Strat and obviously the Fender is the frontrunner, but I am intrigued with the Bugera. I have not heard it in person, can't find a local dealer, only saw demos on youtube. I also was curious if there were any Marshalls worthwhile in my price range. Thanks for the input so far!

Hey, bugera are actually fairly good tone wise, however they have been known for being unreliable due to their weak insides. Mind you ive had a go on most of the current range and they kept breaking in just from being sat in the shop.....

For that $350 price range, the only marshall you can get is probably the MG range.

Unless you can snatch one of the MA series second hand for really cheap.

How about the Cyber Deluxe ???

should be able to find one used for that money.

Still Fender quality and still lots of toys for getting that sound and I think 65 watts so plenty-o-Volume too

I have a friend that uses a VoxVT30 and I can say first-hand that it sounds really good. He gigs with it in a wedding/classic rock/oldies band. Haven't heard the Marshall MG series. Alot of folks here on this forum use the Fender SCXD and they love 'em. I'm thinking about getting one of those myself.

The scxd works great for that type of music. I play that type of music on mine. You should check one out for yourself.
