Greetings
I'm new here, and to electric guitars.
For christmas my son's got me a strat an am standard and a blues jr nos.
This morning while playing i unpluged the cable from the guitar accidently,
now the amp makes a loud hissing noise. If i unplug the cable from the amp the noise goes away, but as soon as i plug the cable back in the noise is back.
What do i need to do to fix or correct this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bill

Make sure that the jack is pushed all the way into both the guitar and amp inputs. It sounds like one of them may be "out" a bit.

Thanks for the reply senggedorje
Thats the first thing i did,
the jack is in all the way.
I wonder if i could have blown a tube?
I know now to turn the volume down all the way before unpluging anything.

+1 If it's only making the noise with the cable plugged in, it must be the cable or guitar. I say you have a bad cable. I've bought cheap cables that were noisy brand new.

You might try pushing in, lightly, each of the tubes of the amp. It could be that one of them has become unseated and it coincidentally began hissing when you pulled the cord out of the guitar. New tube amps are notorious for showing up with one or more tubes having come loose during shipping.

You say you unplugged it accidentally. Did it get jerked out pretty hard? Maybe messed up the jack?

That's what I've been thinking. Most of lower end amps and mid level amps use some pretty cheesy jacks.
