I currently have a Super Sonic. This was my first tube amp. I really like it and its great when playing out, but I'm usually playing at home and its just way too much amp for me.

Any suggestions on a place to start for a nice thick tone that I can push a bit at lower volume levels?

So your looking for a new amp?

If so, thats a waste, get a practice amp! I think you'll dig a little champion 600.

If you want a bit more then maybe a fender G-Dec might be more to your liking.

I'd get a Vibro Champ before a Champ 600.

The Champ is good but I've always loved the 22 watt Deluxe Reverb with it's 12" speaker 8)

Then again if you dont want to buy blind and play it first, your going to have to go ALLLL the way to brighton here in the un-sunny england

Me too but the OP seems to want a lower wattage amp to push a bit. The DRRI gets pretty loud when you push it.

No, they have them here in Belfast. I just can't afford it at the minute. I really want one and a Marshall Vintage Modern cabinet. Getting a major GAS attack!

A PRRI or perhaps even a Blues Junior might do the trick. Lot's a guys like the clean and dirty sound you can get with a Blues Junior.

I am a big fan of the SCXD as anyone on this forum can tell you. Great tonme at both low and high volume. 15 watts into a 10" speaker and some really nice fx. IMO you can't go wrong. I gig and record with it so I would say what you are talking about this might be a good option. I hope that this helps.

I would keep the super-sonic and buy a MXR 6 band EQ to lower the overall volume at home...

Awesome amp, hold onto it and buy a THD Hot Plate. Will allow you to crank the amp to its full potential and not be too loud.

If it is still too much amp I will take it from you and leave my Orange crush 10 watt beast practice amp behind. With its mosterous 8" speaker you'll be able to crank it with plenty of thick tone at reasonable volumes.

Sounds fair!?!?!?!?

Well, I too have that problem, except instead of a super sonic I have a twin reverb. Waaaay to much amp for me, I don't gig and it's just a monster amp (I always wanted one so I bought one = mistake). I also have a blues junior, thinking 15 watts would be just right for the house, at lower volumes the BJ is fine, but if you want some natural "break-up", you have to turn it up. At which point it becomes too loud for the house. Which leads me to the same issue you have....so, after some investigating...I like the Fender Champ, ALOT, but the 999 price tag is way too much for me, so for 149 I'm seriously considering the champion 600. I think It would be perfect for jamming at home.

good luck.
