hi, im back after a very long hiatus.

i was busy playing football. we went 4-1-1, and we are city champs for the first time in 43 years, and the first time we beat Northeast in 17.

but anyway.

lately, my blues junior has really been nailing it for me. with my ibanez axs32, it gets this low chunky sound. but heres the problem.

when i crank it, it gets absolutly harsh. its grainy, and not smooth at all. its also very very un-thick, watered down distortion.

what could this be? speaker? guitar? pickup? eq? what?

its eq'ed... bass 6, mids 9, treble, 9. so what could it be?

the AXS32 is literally an SG, same pickup specs and everything, so use that as your reference point.

yes.

my strat, standard, three single coils, makes it even harsher.

some people have told me that its just due to the fact its a practice amp.[/img]

Sounds like it could be tubes. Do you have a spare set you can try in it?

I rarely crank mine up.

The Blues Jr amp is biased hot and will go through tubes quickly if it is used at high volumes often. When a tube starts to go it will lose it's effectiveness.

i dont either, because it sounds bad.

Hey try to give it more treble. Or replace the tubes with a brighter sounding pair.

Just stick a set of JJs in it. And if that's not smooth enough, try a cheap speaker like a Rocket 50. That's my setup and the overdrive is pure creamy harmonic heaven, no harshness whatsoever.

do you think with upgraded humbuckers, a long scale, and a mahogany body, itll be smooth?
